oldschool drag cars... - 12/29/10 02:19 AM

Hello Guys....hope you all had a great Christmas and are ready for the new year thats just around the corner.....well last year at this time we were in the middle of restoring/rebuilding this Dodge colt for my 17 year old son to bracket race in 2010.....he did a great job driving the car considering he only has driven Jr Dragsters...he went easy 10.40's with a pump gas 318 and a small 390CFM 4BBL carb....even won a race in box against allot of heavy hitters....:)

Now for 2011 my 16 year old son will be racing this 80 Plymouth Arrow drag car that we rescued from sitting since 1988.....cool little tube chassis car....Pump Gas BB with glide looking for low 10's like the colt.....Jesse

Re: oldschool drag cars... - 12/29/10 03:01 PM

I can't be totally sure, but the Arrow looks like the one that was raced by my good freind Dom Surace from Pittsburgh. The car was the original Barnett Hemi PS from Atlanta, Ga.....Dom bought it from them and raced it in IHRA Top Sportsman with some decent success.
He sold the car to someone in the midwest...I think Illinois or Wisconsin back in the early eighties...the last we knew it was racing brackets out there. Haven't seen or heard from it for years.
I can't be sure...but it sure looks like it.

The bare front end chassis pic,CAN YOU SAY LITE! Very cool

Also great job on keeping those two young men involved, racing cars is easier than raising kids!

Re: oldschool drag cars... - 12/29/10 09:55 PM

Thanx allot guys for all the kind words....I dont believe you can go wrong with having kids that grow up at the track....

Sixpack....thats the car....it was built in 74 by a guy named Hans Anderson in Ohio....he ran the car with a HEMI and went 8.40's back then... ....talk about balls!! The car was all gold like you have in the pic....Hans was quite the builder and everything had to be ultralight....there is allot of titanium threwout the front end...steering rack/shaft/spindles/ect.....then he hand fabricated the rear end with aluminum and that uses a aluminum Mickey Thompson 8 3/4 drop out.....450 HP now with the small 390 carb and the car goes easy 10.40's with ez leave on 2step and 6000 shift on pump gas....

I still talk with Hans in Ohio pretty often....he still races at like 75 years old going 8.20's in a vega with the SAME HEMI that was in this colt now in the vega..... Jesse

Hans is still very ambitious. It's interesting to hear his reasoning for his modifications. Here's a shot of the Vega this summer. He's running an aluminum block now with Hilborn's on it.
