INDY 360-3 Intake Hack Job

INDY 360-3 Intake Hack Job - 12/08/10 01:04 AM

Or something to that effect.... Just finishing up a new ICH -3 manifold for 72DEMON416's 440" W5 motor & told him Id post couple pics... This is to replace a MP Large Runner M1 we originally put on his motor, when it was dynoed it was off a bit in TQ/inch due to the intake, & then he was having issues getting the dominator under the hood using an adapter on it... so....

I machined 1.375" off the carb flange for hood clearance under his stock hood & did a 4500 bolt pattern & plenum enlargement. I've done maybe 20-25 of these ICH manifolds to 4500 flange but when you don't have that tall plenum to blend into, definitely makes the 4500 conversion job "different" & little more tricky to do. This is first one I've done with a shortened carb flange... I think it turned out pretty good, for what I had left to work with material wise.

This thing should help put a little more TQ in it. I think it "only" made like 570's with the M1 intake. This should push it closer to the 6's

Flange is just right off the bridgeport & still needed final surface cut in the surfacer when pics were taken.

looks nice how much hp will a fully ported intake gain over a non-ported on indy 360-1s?

Definitely a little shorter than when it came out of the box.

Not really much to be found in "porting" a 4150 flange ICH intake, as long as the port match & runners are right, the big power gains are found when converting it to a Dominator plenum VS running a Dominator on a 2" adapter on the 4150 plenum. Really all depends on the combination... but normally I see gains in the 15-25 HP range eliminating the adapter & converting the intake properly.

lol i'd say so,the most i've ever seen cut was about an 1" for hood clearance.

Holy crap that thing is short now
With that low cut plenum it looks like one of those 4500 M1's now
I can see it already... I have you go through all that work only to find out that the carb & air cleaner won't fit in the end anyways
Ryan, did you remember to modify it to accommodate the bypass hose?

Height wise, yeah it better damn well be about same as your M1 LOL But no spacer required on this...

Forgot about the bypass hose, you're the only person I know who still runs one... looks like I'll be breaking out the 3/4" NPT tap tomorrow. LOL

Ryan I was getting ready to do this to my M1 with
4150 inlet... do you think any torque can be made
cutting for the 4500(of course blending it in) this
is for my 416 W-5s also

Raff, I had sent my 4150 W5 M1 to Ryan to have it converted to 4500 but he said there just isn't enough metal in the plenum to do it.(because of the plunge cut on the outside of the plenum) I'm sure he'll clarify if I'm off base.

I finally had a guy digitize one that I did so now I just have to blend the roof and work the runners. Saves alot of time.
I'll post pics soon....

Thanks... I'll look a little closer tomorrow but if
it wouldnt make any HP or TQ I wont waste my time and
just put the adapter back on

Those M1 LG runner 4150's are notched down for accelerator pump clearance... That missing material is right where the 4500 carb needs to sit & seal. You'd have to weld up those accelerator pump slots & re machine the flange to convert one to a Dominator. & if anything I think it would make that manifold worse after studying them.

Thanks Ryan.... you just saved me a pile of work...
I'll put the adapter back on and open that up and
blend it in
