Well after heater box, sound dedener, carpet, wipers, fiberglass, lexan, light brakes start removing anything you can from anywhere you can. Cut off excess bolts that extend past the fastener etc...

here are some pics in my album on the Duster that I have for sale..
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v506/smokinwoody/DUSTER/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ12

look thru them..

has Lexan glass
aluminum firewall
fiberglass doors, hood, rear deck, front and rear bumpers
trunk floor cut out and replaced with light sheet steel and square tube bars
brackets made out of aluminum and so on...

I see most guys are including their weight, of the cars...mine was just under 2700 with my wife as the driver..so its 2500 and some odd lbs..

Mine is 2700 with iron-head RB engine. It has steel fenders, doors, and trunk lid, but the inner door is cut out and the trunk lid inner sheet metal is cut out. I have 'glass bumpers and homemade aluminum brackets. All lexan windows with no regulators. Ladder bar/coil springs. Stock floor and dash, steel mini-tubs.

Mine was 2930, all steel, all stock interior, but with race seats, cromoly roll bar, mini tubbed,4 wheel wilwood disc brakes, dana 60, 496 RB engine, aluminum heads, 727, all steel except hood, all stock working glass/windows... I just added a tubular K member, cant wait to re-weight it...

Only weight I removed was carpet pad/sound deadner, heater box, wipers, radio delet plate, cut bracing from the deck lid, removed splash gaurds...

Well an aluminum headed small block and 904 are quite a bit lighter than that RB and 727.

not sure if 70 has crash bars in the doors, if so cut them out, i even lightened the inner window regulator and bars in the door, remove all under coating along with the above ideas, brakes too

2900 with iron headed 440 and 727, factory side glass and regs but lexan front & rear screen, all steel body including bonnet, factory dash is gone along with the rest of that unneeded stuff, its not hard to get a duster to diet

Its much easier to find 100 things at 1 lbs than it
is to find 1 item at a 100 lbs so look at everything
plus make brackets that do 2 or more things instead
of 1 bracket for a single job

Re: duster guys how and what - 12/07/10 06:02 PM

What is the goal here?

I am just shy of 3200# race weight and I have been 6.0's in the 1/8th and 9.50's in the 1/4 with a crappy 6.25 1/8th time. I guess I am just saying that with a good build, you might not need to worry about it.
