Tunnel ram carb size?

Tunnel ram carb size? - 12/05/10 01:56 AM

I am bored and thinking of throwing my weiand Tunnel ram on my 496.I have a general idea for carbs but want some experience from those who have run them.
Bear in mind this is a heavy(4600lb) c body with a mild 496(500hp-575tq est)that runs on pump gas.
Does have ported iron heads that flow well.Solid cam(237*-242* @ .050),9.3-1 compression,1 7/8 headers and 2.5 exhaust.
3000 converter and 3.73 gears.
What do you recommend and why?
Only people who have/had them or who tune for someone who does please.

Well I run two 9379 Holleys that are 750cfm double pumpers. My combo is 451 4 speed with a pretty heathy cam. For your combo I think two 3310 Holleys (750cfm) would work great.

2 Holleys 4779 750 CFM double pumpers. Square jetting all around. No power valve. your combination should be ok with 70 all around. Dual carburetor set up likes less jetting than a single carburetor.

My combo is close yours and I have tried two different sets of carbs on my Weiand-1850(600) and 4224 (660 center squirters). The center squirters are faster and leave harder. I had to lean the idle circuit out on the 4224 but after that it was all good. I noticed all the hard core racers can spot them a mile away. I actually have both sets of carbs for sale if you are interested.

I also have run 2 4779 with no power valves sg jetted @ 78 with choke horns milled off. I also run them some sg jetted @ 80. Don't let anyone fool you they have unreal low-end throttle respond. And they don't look bad either.
I almost forgot the tunnel rams for some reason like a lot of CFM. I have been running tunnel-rams since the 80's. My new engine has a tunnel-ram with 2 Terminators(2950 cfm).
The mistake most people make on the Mopar wedge engine is they like a lot more CFM & fuel than the xxx brand engines.

another vote for 660's
I have them on my 572 Inch hemi, the engine has manners like a 318 2 barrel, until you mash the pedal.

went to a 1050 dominator and ran the same

My combo isn't any where near yours, it's a W5 363 with a 277/283 duration with .672 net lift flat tappet, 2 inch headers and no exhaust. I run 2 Demon 750 TR carbs with 79 jets all around and .037 squirters.

Not sure how that relates to your combo but everyone said the 750's were too big for mine, Pfft, things leaves hard and runs great, has great throttle response, I can even foot brake the car leaving at 2200 RPM's.

I was thinking( )that two 600's would be fine for the street.Heck it os 496c.i. so two 750's is'nt exactly overkill.
I have one tricked 750 vac sec that I have had for 15 years and on a dozen different cars/engines so maybe I will pick up a core and rebuild it to match.
Already have the intake and linkage so not much left to do.Now if I can air up the flat tire and get motivated
