Prayers for Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins - 09/22/10 02:21 PM

I know this is a Mopar site; however, I understand another one of the Heros of drag racing is in very bad health. I understand he is in the hospital and had to undergo surgery yesterday for bleeding on his brain from a previous blot clot surgery. Bill is a big part of the history of this sport. Probably one of the most famous Sox and Martin photographs is two killer 4-speed shifters with the wheels up off of the starting line. Those two battled it out for the fans all across this country in "the days of drag racing." Thoughts and prayer for the Grump and his family, get well soon.

I agree, Racing history would not be the same without Grumpy being named. Get well soon.

He is a great guy, and me having worked for Ronnie Sox and having been a friend of Ronnie, I can tell you that he had the utmost respect for the Grump.
The Grump actually started out in a Mopar in case some dont know, and hes now building the engine on a pretty fast Super Stock Hemi car,so hes in the Mopar world even still today.
I talk to Jake up there at the Grumps shop about once a week. I'll call and see how hes doing.

one William Tyler Jenkins was one of the original Dodge Boys never got "Grumpy" until he switched to Chevys....
I'm hoping the win light comes on in his lane just one more time

I've been a fan of Bill Jenkins since I was about 9 years old, so that's about 40 years!
Yes one of the original Mopar gurus who got lost in the Bowtie woods for about 35 years but we welcome him back with open arms!

Notice the LP on the Rocky!

Bill has been one of my heroes since the early 60's when he wrenching on Dodges! Bill is on a pedestal along with my other heroes... Sox and Martin, Dyno Don, Dick Landy, and Dave Strickler.

He meets two of the criteria for undyuing admiration from me.
#1 He has probably forgotten more that I will ever know about a subject I am interested in.
And #2 I have built a model of a car he drove.

A couple three models if memory serves me.

Glad to hear that, it appears he's recovering nicely.. Good to see.. Come On Grumpy, the Moparts Comunity is pullin for ya... We only do that for Chevy guys that we respect..

he is indeed one of the best and when you saw the jenkens competetion sticker on anything it ran hard ...funny I just found an old magazine today from september of 1972 that had an artical about the vega in a match race with Dyno Don and a couple of others ....that vega is still one of my most worshiped drag cars ...I wish him well and a quick ecovery ..he is definately in my prayers .....

The Grump and Smokey Y. are probley the most respected SBC guys in the world! To lose the other half would be terrible! The Grump to the Chevy guys is like us losing Ronnie. Hope he makes it ok!
Fred or anybody else, can you post some of the cool adds he did back in the day? If you know what I mean.
