rim how wide for 9 in slicks? - 09/20/10 12:43 AM
I recently picked up a set of 28x9x15 goodyear slicks and put them on 15x7 wheels that I had a 9in wide street tire on and it looks too narrow. Anyone know how wide the rim should be? I have 9 in wide rims, not sure which rims to use

Many Stock class racers, where 9" tires are the max allowed, use 10" rims. You can run more air which will make a stiffer, longer lasting sidewall, still get a good footprint after fine-tuning and it will be more stable on the top end. It may also help quicken RT's and 60' time by a little bit because, if everything else is working properly, the car is being propelled forward instead of time and HP being wasted and absorbed in wrinkling slicks!
One other factor that 10" rims and more air will affect, (again, just a little bit, but something nonetheless) is that they will grow a little less than slicks on narrow rims & less air, resulting in a little more finish line rpm
