TIRE/RIM FITMENT

TIRE/RIM FITMENT - 09/17/10 01:20 AM

Ok guys...I know I have been DRAGGING this topic around for a few weeks but I just did some measuring tonight and want to see what you guys think.
Ive been running 15"x8" rim with 4.5 back space with 5/16" spacer on the driver side and 7/16" on the pass side. Tonight I put them both on the pass side to see where the tire would sit. I now have atleast 1/2" maybe even 5/8" between the bulge of the QTP and the leaf. With the SS springs, the car sits high enough and I have plenty of room on the outside.

My question is this....I want to get a 10" rim but what back space??

Do the math, to keep the same relations of the rim and tire sidewall to the springs and body panels requires adding half the width of the new rim width to the back spacing 4 8/16 + 5/16 +7/16 = 4 20/16 = 5 4/16 or 5 1/4, right Add one more inch for the width = 6 1/4 so the nearest off the shelf choice is probally 10x6.5 Keep the spacers handy BTW, always count on the section width being wider than you think it will when putting the same tire on a wider rim BTW, I use 10 x 5.5 x 15 and 12x 6.5x 15 on my Duster, I did have the housing narrowed down to one inch narrower than the stock 8 3/4 A bodys, I think I did keep the small A body rear brakes and the axle to brake backing plates spacing the same as the stock A body 8 3/4 are.

Mike, I have 275/60-15 street radials on 8'' rims with 4.5'' backspace for the street and hoping to fit 15x10 rims with the same tyres on a 5 1/2'' backspace for the drags. Rob.

5.25 BS is what your going to need with a 10" rim according to your measurements with both spacers

As CAB mentioned, the section width will be wider with the wider rim, so I think you will have fit problems unless you have room on the outside and move the tire centerline that direction. I can only guess (rough) the section width will be 1" wider, so 1/2" on each side.

When you said you had 1/2" clearance from the leaf spring on the passenger side, was this with no spacer? If the 1/2" clearance was using both spacers, ignore the calcs below.

I can't be sure, but here is my guess:

8" rim 4.5 BS = 10" rim 5.5 BS for same tire centerline.
Account for section width increase, 5.0 BS

Optional increase space from leaf from 1/2" to 1", 4.5 BS
But do you have room on the outside to move the tire centerline (1") this much? ie 1" centerline plus 1/2" section width will reduce outside clearance by 1.5".

Also remember, if you guess wrong with too much BS (5.0"), you can space it out. But if you guess wrong with not enough (4.5"), you are stuck.
