ok bail me out wiring starter relay - 09/01/10 04:18 AM

since I am using a neutral safety switch I need to use a relay. It was 98 degrees here today maybe hotter in the shop . I think I cooked my brain.I am brain dead tonight and can't remember how to wire it using a button. I know one prong is the connection for the safty the other used to do neutral light ? switch, the screw goes to the solenoid ? what goes where and where does what go

THe large terminal on the right goes to the battery, the one in the middle goes to the starter..

The slip on connectors energize the relay... one goes to the keyswitch, the other goes to the NSS and is looking for chassis ground.. which is only present when in nuetral or park..

The neutral safety switch makes the grd connect that one to the push on lug the other push on lug to the start switch the middle one with the screw in it to the starter sol and the stud to battery.

ok thanks exactly how I had it hours ago and gave up trying. it's bad relay out of the box .
I was making my self crazy testing and checking all the wires and connections. that was a waste as I just rewired that car,
man I hate when that happens

thanks

D, is the battery feed
C, sends the volts to trip the starter solinoid.
B. the nss/ground!
A. Positive feed from the IGN. switch.

(A) Feed from Ignition switch - lost in bulkhead fire.
(B) Ground from Neutral switch - urban myth; never installed successfully.
(C)Starter Solenoid Feed - energizes starter when jumped to "D"
(D) Battery Feed - where "C" is jumped to with rusty screwdriver, spare keys, or pliers.

Hey Fred did you get it working?
I just went through this on my Barracuda.
EASIEST way is to have shifter in N and check to see if you have ground or continuity on the wire from the terminal marked G. IF not the NSS is bad or the wire is opened!
Or put a wire from Gnd term. on relay to ground and see if it starts.(MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN P OR N)

make sure the nss is good I just had to replace the one on my 727 because it did not ground to the small center point of the switch itself,,I realize you I believe are running a PG but the principle is the same.

Them Ford relays are for Fords.LOL

As far as I know I am still using the original 1965 Mopar starter relay on my Barracuda. But, it's a street car with stock firewall and wiring harness.

OK YOU GOT ME
I confess the wiring harness has been hacked on quite a bit and is not original but the relay is.
