1970 B-Body Brake Distribution Block/Line-Lock Question

1970 B-Body Brake Distribution Block/Line-Lock Question - 08/13/10 12:29 PM

Does anyone know if the "Stock/OEM" 1970 B-body Brake distribution block is actually just a distribution block or is there any type of "proportioning" or connection between the front and rear brake lines/pressure?

The reason I ask is that I am preparing to install a line-lock/roll control and was hoping to install it on the line (for the front brakes) from the master cylinder before the distribution block.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

That is the line you would put it in no matter if it were a proportioning valve or not. If it's a drum brake car I'm pretty sure it is just a distribution block , it's main purpose is to set off the idiot light on the dash if you loose pressure in one circuit.

The instructions for the line lock state that if it is a proportioning valve that I would need to plug one line currently going to a front wheel from the prop valve, route the line going to the remaining front wheel to the line-lock, then run a tee from the line-lock to each of the front wheels.

I have always seen the line-lock solenoids installed right on the line at the master cylinder but the instructions I received clearly state that this is not a proper install for a proportioning valve.

It was a drum brake car. Now it's discs in the front and drums in the rear.

i went through this when i put my line lock in. it's a pain in the butt, but buy one plug and one tee and plumb it in as per the instructions. mine is also a 70 b body that used to be drum and i'm still using the drum block. sorry i don't know if it's a prop valve or not. good luck whatever you do

I forgot about the part about teeing them together, the reason for that is so you don't set off the idiot light and or damage the valve in the proportioning valve/distribution block. Once you push the button and then release the brake peddle the the valve in the block is going to move because there would be no pressure on the other side of it and set off the brake light on the dash.

I have installed several line locks on Mopars with both disc and drum brakes by installing the line lock on the line to the block. It does make the light go on when applied but it goes off as soon as you let off the button, no big deal

According to my lit, 1970 B's were a 2 function valve - metering and proportioning with no warning light.

Cab , I had the valve get stuck once after a brake line failure which is why I brought that up.

I have put a little more thought into this and going back to when I installed it in a friends car. Are the instructions telling you to run the solenoid after the proportioning valve? I think that's how I did it on my buddies mustang , blocked the other port then tee'd the 2 front lines together .
