My Road Runner Progress, JUST UPDATED! 10-3

My Road Runner Progress, JUST UPDATED! 10-3 - 08/10/10 02:34 AM

I finally got my 70' Road Runner Back on the ground this evening & thought I would share some pics.

A little review of what was done so far. I started on this back in February, and have been going at it darn near every day since the beginning of April.

Here's what I've done so far:

New rear frame rails (from axle back)
New trunk floor & trunk extensions
New rear bumper crossmember
New 2 x 3 Sub Frame Connectors
New Full Tubs
New floor pans
New Alston Chassisworks Ladder Bar Suspension
Narrowed 9" Ford Rear Axle, backbraced & gusseted etc....
Repaired rusty section of drivers side front frame rail
Patched a few spots in engine compartment sheetmetal around battery
Removed all factory undercoating & gunk etc....
Cleaned up & rebuilt front suspension
Wilwood Disk Brakes on all 4 corners
New brake lines. roll control, master cyl. prop valve

Still have a bunch to do but am pretty confident It'll be ready for Norwalk.

Here's a pic how I bought it:

Here's the Progress Pics:

Very nice..
How did you like the Alston stuff? I just finished a back half job, thought they was quality, but didnt like a few things..Like why in the heck they didnt add the front safety brackets to the ladder bars...No one likes to grind the nice powder coat off and weld a bracket on it...
I still havent, I discussed it with the owner, he didnt like the idea, so I think he just used some safety cable through them

Thanx Guys for the kind words!!!

Hey Wayne, I'm not sure what it's going to run. Till winter, the motor is going to remain as-is, but my plan is to have the heads CNC ported, with larger valves etc... & a larger hyd. roller cam. So we'll see....

Re: My Road Runner Progress, It's Back On the Ground..... - 08/13/10 01:35 AM

I was able to drop the Engine in to see how it was going to fit, initially. LOOKS KILLER!!! But, I kinda' figured........I need a new Hood. No way it's going to fit under the stock Hood. Even if I put spacers in between, the K-frame & frame rails.......not enuff to make a difference. I thought about cutting the top of the Intake down, but I can't bring myself to do it, for what that thing cost. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky & come across a fiberglass hood at the Mopar Nats tomorrow.

Anybody want to buy a Very Nice Road Runner Hood?

Here's the pics:

Those fittings are just the connections for the upper rad hose & lines to the block. I could reverse flow them depending on how I route/connect the lines to the remote water pump.

Good grief Glad I was wrong on that and you tried it, no other way to know.

For turning any rpm, your breather tank is 100X better than the factory setup. That's going to help for sure.

I just finished the hood. I made a different post for it & included pics of it. I just ripped the heads off the motor & dropped them off to Jeff at Modern, for port work. Other engine upgrades are a new cam, GZ Motorsports Vacuum Pump & some oil pan modifications. +
I have to finish the interior.......I'll be picking up the last few pieces I need at the WPC Swap Meet this weekend.

I'm also building a new gauge panel with all the Autometer gauges in the dash. Other than that, she's ready.

Thanx for asking!!!

Things are getting really close. The engine is ready, the trans is back from rebuild, converter got shipped out to UCC. I'm currently working on the interior. I'm almost finished with the custom gauge cluster & just need to wire it in. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow. Should be real soon, being finished. I promised my kids I'd pick them up on their last day of school in it.
