not likely. sonic check the block to know for sure.

Highly unlikely, unless you use an industial block
or motorhome block. The pass car blocks may be opened to 4.250 with a narrow safety margin. This may be due to core shift/rusted bores or even overboring damaged cylinders. Sonic check to be
100% sure and then be careful with the overbore.
You may or may not get a 440 sized piston bore,
but a 426 wedge piston size is abit more do-able.
Safety is the key. Think about it when you add
more compression/cylinder pressure, rpm and maybe
bolt on "power adders". Things CAN get disasterous
if the motor lets go! If you really want a 4.325
block, buy a used 440. You would be gaining even more overboring it! 413's are great, don't get me wrong, but for what you want to do 440's would be
better. It's a gamble for the 413 due to it's age!
Good Luck!!

We have done quit a few over the years and sonic test as well but never exceed 4.250

100%
That's what I figured also, just too much of a
wear/core shift factor to deal with on those
pass. car blocks. If you need the cubes, lengthen
the arm (stroke), but don't go crazy (undersquare)with it. Thanks for the input BG.

Re: biggest bore on a 413 - 08/09/10 05:15 AM

I have to agree and disagree with some of these posts. Yes, it isn't recommended to go that far overbore, and you should sonic check if you are planning anything over 4.250 with a 413 block.
However, I have two 413 industrial block based engines that are 4.310 bore that have been running since 2004. We have been switching and freshening these engines every two years. I know that most max wedge stock eliminator cars, like mine, are using the 413 industrial block. I don't think that you would ever want to do it with a passenger car block. We just built a 4.250 bore 413 street wedge this past spring that is in a 63 sport fury convertable and running great.
That is our experience with these blocks.

..............OOPS, Sorry LOL!!! I guess it just depends on who you want to believe.

I think that I will start looking for low mileage 440's now that NHRA/IHRA has allowed us to go .075 overbore legally.

No disagreement Jeff,we are referring to the standard 413 blocks, not everyone has access to the industrial blocks. We have a few and they are a heavy block and as we now know, someone has been buying them all up and hoarding them to control the market.

Thanks

Does anyone have sonic numbers to back up the claim that industrial blocks are thicker in the cylinder bores? Not doubting, just curious how much thicker they actually are. Also, are they any heavier in the main saddle area, as this seems to be the achilles heel of RB's, with cap walk and cracking in that area. It seems that this would be the bigger advantage of an industrial block as it seems most BB Mopars cash it in because the cranks are dancing around at high horsepower, and not blowing holes in cylinder walls. Any pics of an industrial block? I know that they have a ton of extra webbing on the sides of the block as compared to a "normal" RB.

Found this pic of a block. Supposed to be a 426 Industrial? Got it from an Ebay auction about 4 years ago so I don't know anything about it.

What's the pad over by the front of the left
cylinder bank say. Or the numbers on the side of the block juxst above the block plugs. Sometimes
the numbers are stamped in back of the engine.
Not a bad find at all!! GOOD rugged block!!

If you have a set of .030 383 pistons they will fit a 413 if you bore it to 4.280

Very G-O-O-D alternative on a replacement piston. And they DO make them for
the 383 up to 12.5 to 1, maybe 13 to 1.

H-Guy ....

383 piston in a 413 ...with a 3,75 crank .....BAD move .. ..... = LOWER compression than in a std motor-homeY moder !

WrongO piston CD ...

Well Doc, I was one of the BETTER infomed about the motor. The were a few around in my family when
I was a youngster. My uncle never told me to sit
back while he was driving his 300's. He just SIMPLY
TAPPED his right foot on the gas, to set me back in the seat!! Junk! I DON"T think so!!
If you want to believe the junk fodder, it's on you! Just send some of those GOOD cores to me!!

Doc, there's nothing that a little slice on the
heads and block can't cure!! It's not
rocket science! Or, just simply add some
high octane juice or BOOST if the compression is
right for it!!
But wait!! We're talking combos here, let
the man who posted decide. Doc, we will battle this out later on the pm side!

Sure, you know about the SLICE! Something you have to do also to your PRECIOUS, COVETED 400's.
Those motors that you kindly "relieve" them of their THERMOQUADS!! Except that with the
413, things get better, especially around 9.6 - 10.0 to 1. ing isn't it!!

H ... my man ....I have to really ... at you saying SLICE .....

You would need the "WHOLE PIE" to do that !

And what would you like on your 413 pie, blower,
nitrous, short ram 2-4bbl, long ram 2-4bbl, inline
2-4bbl or just a GOOD ram intake with 2-660's or
750's on
top and B1 heads. I could go on with the ingredients!!
