Just wondering from those in the know. How important are good flowing heads on a boosted engine? I have seen some real anemic heads produce nice power with small flow numbers. I am talking in the 1200 to 1500 hp range with procharger.....what type of head flow do I need?

Head flow requirements will be dependent on the ci displacement of the engine being boosted.
Forcing air into a cylinder rather than pulling it in with pistons is more efficient but ultimately there is a limit. To make 1200whp you are going to need some efficient heads. Trends Engine Analyzer states that a 500 cid engine need approx. 400 cfm intake at .700 to make 1900 crank hp or 1300whp. A smaller motor is much more forgiving to lower flowing heads which may be what you are seeing. Just look at the Mustang crowd and there 341ci engines making insane power.

Your current W8 heads will have no problem supporting that kind of power level with enough boost. Mike Gray was making around 1600-1800 with about same exact W8 head you have, with a more max effort type motor. I'm still screwing with mine on dyno this week, so far I've made almost 1100 @ 9 PSI non intercooled with a 2.15"/1.60" valve small port W9 that does not flow on intake or EX anywhere near what your W8's do... 417 inches, far from max effort type deal cam wise etc. Just street/strip car deal. I'm just having problems making boost... hopefully we will have that sorted out for tomorrow & can approach or bypass the 1200 mark in the 13-15 PSI range.

You put 20+ intercooled PSI into a 415-440" W8 motor it will make 1400-1600 HP no problemo.

Good to hear. I am trying to figure out the right direction to head with mine for next year. Just about have everything in place to start pouring serious power at it (Chassis/transmission). The 10.5 guys here are now solidly in the 5.0's in the heat.

10.5 guys in DFW don't mess around. They're trying to pull John Force numbers out of those little tires.

Good flowing heads definitely help. With better flowing heads you will make the same hp level at a lower psi of boost.

What size engine? Alky does make a difference!

400 " alky no cooler needed

I figured it was a small cube engine with the head flow you listed. No intercooler is a real nice thing about alchohol/methanol

The class I will run allows gasoline only. Will probably do a meth injection on it.

will thay allow meth injection or say it is a fuel?would you object to using C-16 fuel?
will you have a boost/timing retarder?

Yes, meth injection is allowed. C-16 is ok...I have been using Q16, C15 and now C14. Yes I will have boost/timing retarder.

Id I was going to run the tttf class I would stick with nitrous! The class is designed for nos Cars. An f1 with no innercooler will not compete with a 600 in motor on spray. Jason Lee has the nmca record with a 5.13. Eight different cams and 5 different converters to get it at its best. Just my
