Miss the Demon carb- but ready for NSS

Miss the Demon carb- but ready for NSS - 07/30/10 02:04 PM

First off- tuning carbs is not fun! You get all your combos together and feel confident and then you make a pass and...time to try another combo- hahaha

This year bought a different carb to run in NSS, 850 AVS Edelbrock. We run the 1000cfm Demon in Pro/Sportsman normally. With the Demon our best run was a 10.98 at 124mph, but hot summer months keep us in the 11.00's 11teens. Put the Edelbrock on at TNT last night...consistant 11.50's. Guess I am running the D index again. Bummed, we tried several combos and they were all similiar. I was hoping for 11.30's or 40's with it. I was rather impressed at the 60' times, thought they would be way off but only a few slower than my fastest 1.55 Demon- 1.60 Edelbrock. We have one more TNT before the Nats so maybe we will play again. Oh well, at least she's consistant.

Anyone run DIAMONDBACK carbs?

Damon @ Diamondback did a pair of 750 carbs for our NSS '64 Savoy...we'll find out how they work later this year if everything goes as planned. We ran NSS/C in years past, but hope to be competitive in NSS/B going forward with the new combo.

For what it is worth, the people we know that already have his carbs are REALLY happy with them.

Ive got 2 800 eddys that Damon set up for the Yellow Sub. In my opinion, they are worth every penny for the Diamond Back Mods. Compared to out of the box 800s that I started with, I gained an immediate 3 tenths in ET and my 60 foots went from 1.53s to 1.44s with no other changes what so ever.

What mods are done to those carbs? Sounds interesting? I'm running two 750's I have done just a little work on, but don't get to run much NSS due to location, will be though in the next couple of years since I'm moving back east.

Aside from the obvious external cutting on the choke horn and saddle cutting the divider for improved air flow, I know he address fuel bowl stability (sloshing) and caming reaction which makes things happen quicker and easier ( way better throttle response) which makes better 60 ft times. Ive noticed a lot more consistancy as a result. Im sure theres more to it since Edelbrocks have a lot of weaknessess but thats NSS racing. You run what is allowed and make the best of it.

I know he has put a LOT of time and experimentation into his work and the reward is right on my time slip

Thanks gang...I only run one carb, I run a dual plane Indy intake, still think it's worth it with the one carb set up? I would love to get at least two tenths back...

Well I cant see how it would make it worse. better air flow and throttle response will help any setup. How much? hard to say. I base my success with tunnel rams fed with 2x4 top ends.

You should go to the source with your setup and get some good imput.
One thing i have learned about Damon Khun is that u will get it straight up. Ive never known him to push anything he sells just to make a buck.

go to www.diamondbackengines.com and scroll to tech forums find a catagory and type in what u have and what u would like to have and he is usually pretty quick about responding.

Hope this helps ya !
