Aluminum vs. steel deep 727 pan - 07/28/10 02:40 AM

Does a cast aluminum deep pan make the transmission any "stiffer" than a deep steel pan? I need to buy a pan and was wondering if it's worth the extra $100 for the aluminum. Thanks

without doing structural testing i'd say the alloy pan would definatly make the housing stronger plus the fact most alloy pans have ribbing on the outside, they would definatly dissipate the heat quicker.

I run the steel deep pan... never broke a housing yet

I just bought the Summit aluminum version for a 904 mainly for the slight extra heat disappation. It came with an aluminum billet spacer instead of the brazed metal version with 3 screw tubes.

Check Summit for their brand and others.

I'm sure the thicker cast aluminum is stiffer than the stamped sheetmetal version also.

I'd want to get a cast aluminum pan for my 904, but can only find them with drain coming out bottom of pan. Would like to find one with drain coming out the back. Have tried most suppliers and the only one I can find is a fabricated pan which I have but it leaks. Any ideas? Thanks, Rick

Mopar Performance has a cast aluminum 904 pan with a side drain plug - P5007794AB, but it costs almost twice as much as the Summit version - SME-1010R!

Ordered the B&M aluminum deep pan. It's nice. $129. Even has a hole for a temp sensor already and came with the extension and filter. Trying to get this car done for Missouri. Getting close.
