What brand and type(stainless, Ti or ?) of valves are you running and how many runs on them? Is this the first time breaking one, if that is what it is? I have broken several exhaust valves on my old NHRA Street Hemi when I missed a shift It is more than sickening, I hope yours isn't hurt to bad. The only good thing I see of the breakage is that it didn't occur in high gear

Re: Procharged Duster (video) & breakage - 07/26/10 06:12 PM

Manley titanium valves with manley nextek springs with 365# of seat pressure. Ordering a new set of PAC springs. Less than 40 passes on these! I just hope it didn't mess up the cylinder sleeve. We will know by the end of the night what it is.

That Procharger set-up makes good power but everyone I know that has one, has had horrible valvetrain trouble with the gear drives. And the gears themselves in the gear drive your deff not the only one. Steve always breaks the valves right above the keeper. I t got so bad he bought an extra complete head so they could just swap heads when one broke.

Why would that be hard on the valvetrain?

Re: Procharged Duster (video) & breakage - 07/29/10 10:14 PM

Making power will find the weak link every time .
You know where the failure happened ,, try to figure out the why ( physical properties , bad geometry ,parts flexing ,ECT ) and move on .

Four second cars do not fall from trees , you have to work for it.

Fix it and hit it hard.

i would say that the geardrive transmits and creates some cracy harmonics that get all out of hand at this level, not that i have any kind of experience with this just a thought that hit me

Nice car sorry to hear that my titaniun is strong in tensible tests,it has good high temperature strength and is lighter than steel but titaniun has certain disadvantage is amongst the worst bering material imaginable it has a propensity to weld at the slightest provocation to anything that rubs against it.A bet you use ceramic titaniun intake valves they can stand enormous temperatures without any degradation aditionally it doest conduct heat well.so it is good for an intake valve. However they are strong in compression and a valves main stresses are in tension an area where they failed abysmaily

Re: Procharged Duster (video) & breakage - 07/30/10 01:53 PM

Actually appears to be caused by the intake seat falling out! Looks as though it may have came out and lodged in the exhaust valve. Causing the piston to hit the valve and breaking the head off the valve. Head is being repaired now, piston on order, and everything else is being inspected!

If you don't have Berilieum(SP?) seats in the heads now you may want to switch to them now with the Ti valves
