451 pistons - 07/09/10 06:48 PM

Does anyone know of some off the shelf forged pistons for a 451 with using 400 length rods?? All the ones I look at are using 440 length rods not 400 length rods.???

Have you checked Ross Pistons (6.358")?

Curious, not questioning.... But: Why build the short rod version? I always thought the RB rod version had an optimum rod-ratio? And it seems that pistons for the short rod version would be taller, thus heavier??
Just wondering

we carry them for both rod lengths.

Main reason at this point is budget. I have a brand new set of eagle h beams for 6.385 and i would like to use them if i could.

Makes sense, I guess. You probobly could sell them on the bag, and buy some RB length rods. I suppose either motor will work well, but I think you're giving away a bit in the area of bobweight with the short rod version. (???)

I thought the factory Mopar 383/400 rod length was 6.358, that sounds like a rod for a different application...BB Chevy.

Keith Black P/N #215 and P/N #251 pistons are for the 400/451 application with the 6.358 rods. And since Eagle only appears to make their 6.358 rods with 1.094" piston pins, the KB Pistons will make a good option for you so long as you're not running nitrous.
