Scott, by the looks of it, you have a new FireCore part that you will be selling, thats a true benefit to the racer. I'll wait until Bill spills the beans,,

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/16/10 06:36 AM

Ok, finally got all my ducks in a row and ready to post.

First things first, please bear in mind that we can compare todays #'s to the highst #'s got got last time. Those pulls were made with a 2" APD spacer and we completly forgot about that untill we were tearing it down.

So, for a fair comaprison of an apples to apples test, Here is the best dyno sheet On alky that is as we ran today.

The only other item to mention, and I was not aware of it till this afternoon, is that Scott decided to install the cam 3 deg adv from where it was last time. So instead of a ICL of 108 we are now at 105.

His thoughts behind this change were to increase the exh piston to valve clearence, and bring the power band down in the RPM range all in an effort to avoid the bent exh valve problem we had.

Here's the 2 warm up passes we made with Scott's dyno gas carb and C 12

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MwuaZ9CQYY

This is where it gets really cool.

For this next pass the ONLY thing we changed was the coil. We swapped out Scott's HVC coil for the brand new FIRECORE coil I picked up from Sparky. Even Rick thought the HVC would out perfrom his coil but boy were we all surprised.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJEHAjH1DdQ

655 hp @ 6000 625 ft lbs @ 4900 with the HVC

662 @ 5900 633 ft lbs @ 5000 with the firecore

7 hp and 8 ft lbs just from swapping out coils

Now, on to the alcohol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CdkHIqbicE

Pulled the timming from 35 to 33 degrees

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPFVXA0h_sY

Back a little more to 31

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJY1r7XxafY

Back up to about 32.5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvKjo6-aTVs

After seeing the torque #'s on the last pull we decided to leave it there. Yeah, we gave up some upper RPM HP but gained much more torque and got a nice flat curve to boot. Not to metion the piston to valve clearence gained as well as the the less wear and tear on the valve train. Neither of us wants to go back in to it anytime soon.

Very good! Gald to see you got it done...I think 6900 rpm is still pushing the point..

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/16/10 02:51 PM

that is a nice improvement in the torque map..
not terribly far on on the hp graph...also.

so your looking at a 4000-4400 rpm converter?

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/16/10 03:22 PM

Thanks guys. I greatly appreciate you putting up with listening to me remable about this.

Jamie, we have some better springs in there so we should be alot better off than before.

Marco has the #'s and last I heard both conv were opened for inspection. Should be a far cry better than the last time out.

And now,

onto the lighter side of things

Congrats Bill! Will you make it to the Burgh this weekend?

What size engine is that by the way?

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/16/10 11:38 PM

Kathy, that has got to be the worst pic of me I've ever seen

Kara, it's a .030 over stoke stroke 440 and no I wont be making it to PRP this weekend. I just learned a little while ago that both the 9" and 8" conv I had were mangled beyond repair.

The conv were so bad in fact that I was advised to go through the trans and make sure it didn't damage anything else. And here I was so adimate about not pulling the trans to yank the motor this time. Looks like now I have to anyway.

But hey, what can I do. Now is definatly not the time to start cutting corners just to get it done.

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/17/10 12:39 AM

I am not worry about the springs...stock crank-stock block-stock main caps and stock main bolts. no girdle..6400 would be all I push on that thing if you want it to live.

That is awesome news. Thanks for the test, guys. Since word has gotten out about these new coils, they have been really selling. Mostly Procharged and turbo guys. It's good for them, its great for us, using our hot electronics and hot ignition boxes. Plus, its almost as hot as an HVC2, but 100 bucks cheaper ! Nice posts Billy..

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/17/10 12:54 PM

Dave, great talking to you too. Glad your making headway.

Ted, testing will have to wait untill I get a conv and go through the trans. I plan on going through the trans on Tues. Hopefully it will be nothing more than a look see and put it back together.

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/17/10 09:35 PM

Bill,

It is amazing how much difference a few degrees of timing make with the alcohol. Have you ever run a timing loop with your motor on gas? If so, do you see the same affect, or is it more a characteristic of alcohol?
Posted By: WILD BILL

Re: IT'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN - 06/18/10 12:46 AM

No, we never played with the timing on gas. I actually think the timing change had more of an impact becuse of where the cam was degreed as opposed to the fuel used. Back when we first built the motor we set the timing at 35 deg and left it there the whole time.
