Anyone running the Callies 4" smallblock kit @ Mancini - 06/15/10 12:23 AM
What are the pros and cons to this kit? I know it uses SB chevy rods. Will they clear the block without having to grind like you do using Mopar length rods? Seems like a good deal??

I am not running there kit but I am running the 4" Callies crank with Scat H-Beam chevy rods the bolts cleared my X block with no grinding but it was close so I did grind a small notch for good measure.

Dave Moder(aka Moper) did my 416 motor using this kit. PM him for details. He did tell me that it was a pleasure for him to work with this kit.

why do you prefer chinese?
I'm not sure this was made over seas for as long as
I've had it around here... if it was I was unaware
of it at the time

the dragonslayer is a chinese forging, finish machined at Callies.

I've got one. Very nice quality with no issues. Did take some mallory to balance with diamond dish pistons and h-beams.

I use Callies Dragonslayers all the time, including a 3.79 I just put into my own personal Turbo motor.... so obviously yes I like their quality.
Wish they had not discontinued the 3.58 unit, as it was a nice Circle track piece... & yes they are forged in Michigan. The Brand X Callies CompStar cranks are forged in China, hence lower price than their dragonslayers.
Their Magnum Series cranks are very nice for forged (non billets) & are the preferred choice of alot of Sprint Car engine shops.... Buddy just got in a 38 lb 358 limited Sprint Callies Magnum XL & for what he paid (around $1800) it is a work of machining art...

I got my made in USA Callie's Crank for about 100.00 more than a chinese crank so why would I bother buying one of them.
And my Callie's was spot on needed nothing to make work and balanced with out needing to add metal.
