MADE SOME REAL HEAD WAY TODAY

MADE SOME REAL HEAD WAY TODAY - 06/09/10 05:13 AM

Got quite a lot accomplished today despite the phone ringing off the hook.

All the pistons cleaned up and hung back on the rods

Back in their holes

Even though we degreed the cam the first time still have to make sure it's in right and nothing changed

Getting buttoned up

Time for the heads

We did change the springs to get a little better control of the valves this time around

Added bonus, Jeff Patterson came by in the evening to work on his F.A.S.T. motor. He had a minor set back on piston issues but we did manage to get a templet made for his crank scrapper

Still waiting to run into Bondo again out there

Thats cool, Bill, good to see it going back together. So this new crank is 10/10 also and balanced out OK?

Re: MADE SOME REAL HEAD WAY TODAY - 06/09/10 05:46 AM

This crank is actually std/std and has 180 oiling on the mains.

The 10/10 crank I bought I'm saving for the other 440 block for Gina's car

And yes, it balanced beautifully

Glad to see it going back together......is it my s.w.a.t. goggles or are those piston skirts really scuffed up? Either way hopefully you guys get er figured out and head back to the track.

Re: MADE SOME REAL HEAD WAY TODAY - 06/10/10 01:08 AM

Yes the skirts are a little scuffed (Mostly just coating wear}and Yes it will be making a pull or 2 on the pump to insure no issues prior to being put back in the blue beast.

You'll be done in a day... so when do you have dyno
time lined up for.... hope you have better luck this
time Bill... at least you moving right along instead
of it sitting for half the summer

Raff, you know I never just sit around when there's work to be done.

Not sure when it will be back on the dyno but soon for sure. Probably won't get back in the car right away though as we still have the conv to sort out.

I'm curious can you tell me what's done to the oiling system that you need the 3/8" tube crossing over in the lifter valley?

I will do my best

From the factory the rocker gear gets "timed oiling" This mod gets the rockers constant oiling. I may be mistaken but I think the cam bearing is positioned to block the feed holes, the pass side is drilled all the way to the oil channel and the the drivers side is tapped in to that with the cross over tube. Restrictors were then placed in the head to control the amount of volume.

Hopefully Scott will chime in and correct this if I got it wrong.

So what seat and open pressures do the new springs have compared to the ones you used the first time?

Re: MADE SOME REAL HEAD WAY TODAY - 06/10/10 09:39 PM

We actually found that the old springs had lost some of their pressure.

These new ones gave us just a litle more prssure than what the old ones were when we put it together the first time.

Can't complain to much about the old springs. They were the original Eddy ones that were first installed in 06.

I don't recall exaclty what the seat and open pressures were but I can get those #"s next time if I can remember too.
