Ready For Sunday... Sunday

Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/28/10 06:35 PM

Well I'm all packed up to go to the track Sunday with
a few of the guys here and to again look for a driver
for my car... I have a sign made up with "DRIVER
WANTED"... I'll pull the car out of the trailer and
have it sitting there... going to fire up the generator,
turn on the AC... kick back and help a couple buddies
on their cars and see if I can find a driver... this
is going to be a more fun type weekend and help than
anything else... sure would be nice to find a driver
because if I dont find a driver in the next couple
of weeks then the car goes up FOR SALE

Man, wish I could join you guys, but I'm still a week away from having the motor back in the car and we're having the in-laws over for a bbq. Maybe we can all get together out there in a couple weeks??? Have fun and be safe!

What? You have AC?

If anyone wants to find me, I will probably be hiding in Mike's trailer....

No EZ ups at Ace Hardware so I had to settle for a folding chair with a built in shade canopy....

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/28/10 10:09 PM

I broke my neck in 2009 and the doctors said that I broke too many vertebrae to be able to drive again. I lay in a hospital bed for a year thinking what was next. I did all work on my cuda`,paint and body, engine, trans, weld, rear etc. I found some one to drive my car and it seems a lot different. I still do the work on the car but can`t drive it. My driver, after about a month of test and tune, now cuts better lights than I did. Don`t quit! Some one upstairs has change things a bit.

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/28/10 10:15 PM

Thanks.... If I didnt have a stroke which most people
wouldnt know I would just slow the car to 10.0 but
with the stroke my brain to hand eye are all wacked
and cant cut a light to save my life.... so its either
a driver for the car or its up for sale

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/28/10 11:08 PM

Mr. P what if you pulled the body off that car and stretched the chassis 8-10". Then you could hang a '36 Plymouth body on it, slow it down to about 10.80's, drive off the foot.

You ain`t 16 no more and like me reflexes are slower. Life is short. Race till you die. It ain`t over till it`s over.

Why would I want to do that... I already have a 38 Ply
street rod... my problem is racing now days... the brain
to eye hand is all over the map.... its not like I dont
want to race it just cant happen ... plus the doc
says no way.... if I even turn my head fast I will
get dizzy... not all the time but it happens

If it was just been slow I'd change the dial in the
delay box... but thats not the problem

Now that is a good attitude. Good luck finding the right team member and try to enjoy this sport.

I have some beef franks and the little grill to bring to the track this weekend. Sat is a double header points race at my regular track (2 races in one, long day). And I am thinking of going to VA for a $2K race at a 1/8th mile track on Sunday and they are repeating it again on Monday!

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 01:01 AM

Mike, slow it down to 9.50's and bring it to the CC events stuff. I would be more than happy to run it in No Box for you. I am looking for a ride since Orb is not bringing out the Cuda this season. If nothing else I will definitely be coming to Milan for the Chrysler race late this season. Racing at Pacemakers in Mt. Vernon this Sunday or I would come up to Milan.

Thanks for the offer Lonnie(which I might take you
up on at the CC Events) but I'm looking for a driver thats
near buy so we can make the local events and travel
to some of the farther away ones.... I would like
to get it out at least 2 times a month... more if
the driver can swing it

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 01:59 AM

Mike, Best of luck finding a driver. Think you would make a great crew chief and mentor for someone.

Hang in there til you find someone, I think you would have some fun in that role.

If I was a young guy walking through the pits and saw that sign, couldn't afford to race my own, building a new one or just had to sell one.........
I'd probably wet myself

Have a great time!

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 02:06 AM

I told a couple young bucks I work with about it. Both Chrysler contractors....one has been 9s before, the other has been in a 10 second car before but only on the street. The second guy's eyes got real big when I brought it up, he said he wondered if it could be slowed down a bit to start with....I told him to come out and talk to you about it. They're both east siders also which might help.

Mind if I bring a few more dogs to put on the grill? I probably won't be hanging around for eliminations but will have the gf and her two boys there, they will want to eat too.

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 04:51 AM

I'm in Farmington Hills most of the time these days, but started in Center Line in '05 and worked there until last summer.

The whole setup is pretty unusual (I actually work out of two locations, depending on what I'm supposed to be doing).

Don't mean to be too mysterious, but it'd really suck if somebody got their panties in a wad so I'll avoid that by talking with ya at the track

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 12:51 PM

I am baffled that it would be difficult to find a pilot.
Finding a good one is another animal all together , but I'd think you would need to keep a squeegee handy to periodically sweep the drool away from the perspective drivers.
You are providing a dream for a lot of guys.
For nearly ten years , my motto was " I build it , she breaks it " .......... my better half did the driving and was very good at it.
I did some laps , but she was the driver because she flat killed the tree.
And I enjoyed every second of it.
There is a tremendous amount of satisfaction in building and maintaining a good working race car for me.
Good luck in your search Mike .......... With out knowing you personally , I have to go with my gut.
And it tells me that you bring a lot to the table and are a real asset to the sport.
We need more guys like you involved.
Somewhere out there is a young person with shallow pockets a love of the game that matches your own.
And I hope you find each other.

Re: Ready For Sunday... Sunday - 05/29/10 01:03 PM

Thanks... I enjoy working on it and over the last couple
of years its been getting harder for me to do the
crew work and then driving due to the fact that I
am usually by my self... fortunately my car doesnt
require much attention between rounds... fuel every
other round... no charging and very seldom do I even
pull the hood off... when my wife came with me I would
have her do certain things and 1 was video every pass,
well that was dropped when she quit coming(not that
she doesnt like the racing but she has her own hobbies)
but if I find a driver I will go back to videoing
every pass and down loading the data logger
