Found one at the Portland Swap Meet: called Engine Post-Mortem, by Brian McCarthy. He trained on aircraft, then did failure analysis for Repco in Australia. IIRC, Repco also built engines for F1 in the '60s. Published by Rellum in 2003, distributed by Bookworks Pty Ltd. Addresses everything.

The physics of this stuff is fascinating to me, and there's a lot of valuable info in the book; too much to archive here, but I'd bet it could answer 10 questions a week on this site.
