YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/22/10 03:23 PM

Taking the ole' GTX into Jake's Automotive next Tuesday for a front-end alignment,and long-awaited dyno-tune session! What are your guesstimates on HP and Tq.? X weighs 3740,race weight,and runs 11.19-11.30 @ 120mph. Motor's a '70' +.040 440 block,10:25:1 Diamond Forged pistons,OTB Eddy Performers,Comp SQ solid flat tappet with .610 lift and 260/266 @ .050 duration,105 installed centerline. M-1 intake,and 850 Holley DP. Headers are 2" TTI's, 3.5 collectors. Any estimates??? Thanks in advance! RandyB

from wallace calc.
Your HP computed from your vehicle ET is 473.53 rear wheel HP and 526.14 flywheel HP.
Your HP computed from your vehicle MPH is 465.79 rear wheel HP and 517.55 flywheel HP.

have fun at the tuner.i hope it goes well.

Thanks,Mike! Sounds like those heads need to come off this winter and taken to Modern for a CNC port job! Or..I could send them up to Dwayne, in Vermont!

comparing what I've seen on the dyno....those numbers are right on what I would expect on realistic dyno.

Randy you need to work on the chassis... a 120 pass
should be 11.0... so your making enough power for 11.0

Would still be in the chassis... if the chassis is
right he wouldnt spin... if he is... unless the tires
are shot
EDIT
But I forget what gear Randy is running... which
will make a difference also

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/22/10 06:56 PM

Raff,I'm running a 4:56 gear,which I was thinking of swapping with my 4:10!?? Tires & Slicks are 30" tall. Trap rpm(quarter mile)is 6500-6600. Trap rpm with 4:10 was 5900-6000.

What kind of dyno, and corrected or actual hp?

did ya get the new seats in it?that should be worth 15-20 hp

Is that weight with or without the driver?

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/23/10 02:44 AM

Id say 560 to 575 at the crank. 120 MPH is good for about a 11.10

Your going to need at leat a 122 MPH for a 10.99, Unless you can pull off a 1.47 60 ft. or so. mike

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/23/10 05:01 AM

Anybody know where I can pick up 2 mph? Carb spacers? Bigger carb? Sealing off the carb to hood scoop? Josh, the weight is WITH driver and gas! RACE READY. Bonefish, still waiting on those 15hp seats to arrive! Maybe,I can pick up enough power on the dyno to put me in the 10's!? We'll see! Marc,I plan on posting the dyno results tuesday night! Mike, thanks for your guess! Where did you get your 560-575hp figure? I used the Mopar Performance Engine Manual HP Calculator a while back, and I believe I got REAL close to your 560-575 number!!! Thanks Guys! RandyB

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/23/10 06:17 AM

Getting some cold air into it sounds like your best bet, that's got to be worth a couple of MPH.
Good luck.

Head port and mill a little off them to get your comp up to around 11.1.

CNC porting by Jeff @ Modern Cylinder Head.
- Send him your intake, also.

HI Randy,I had my 69 roadrunner there last year great guys,I have a 471 with a six pac cnc eddy's by Jeff and 590ish bullet cam with 260 ish dur@50 and I made 460 at rear wheels.
My best run last year was 11.09 @123 with a 1.58 60 ft.
I switched to a 4 barrl this year hoping to use the head work with a single plane intake and 1000 pro systems carb, but haven't made it to the track yet.
Let us know how it goes

Hi Randy, the 120mph shows 500hp @ 3750 raceweight on the Moroso speed calculator.

I'd try sealing the carb to the scoop for some fresh air.

Thanks, fella's! Maybe I'm way off! Especially if Eddie's getting 460hp at the wheels with head work done! How much flow does the CNC work show @ .600-.650 lift? How does that translate in horsepower gain? Thanks,Eddie! Sounds like the RR's running great! With a little suspension work, sounds like a high-10-second ride! Ron,Raff got the same 500hp # I think he used the Moroso calculator, also! Thanks! RandyB

Here is the flow sheet from a set of standard port window MCH CNC Edelbrock RPM heads we purchased.

It really will depend on how extensively ported the heads are now. If Dwayne spent a lot of time with them hand porting them, I doubt Jeff's CNC program will improve it much, if any at all. That's not a shot at Jeff's program in any way, it's just that Dwayne is a very accomplished wedge head porter and there's only so much that can be done. If the heads are just touched up, then there could be significant gains @.600-.700 lift.

Randy,

In the Fall 2007 Engine Masters Magazine, Steve Dulcich dyno'ed a simple 448" motor back to back with stock RPM heads vs Modern Cylinder Head CNC RPM heads.

At 6000-rpm peak, he gained 46 HP with the swap. From 529hp to 574hp
His combo:
- Speed-Pro-2355 pistons, 10.2 compression
- Comp MM Flat tappet cam, 243°/247° @.050, .586/.597 lift, 110°LSA, 106° installed
- Comp 1.6 Roller rockers
- Victor intake
- RS1000 Demon carb
- TTI 2-2_1/8 headers.

I guess I missed the "OOTB" comment the first time I read it. As Topbrent mentioned, there's lots to be gained from Jeff's CNC porting over the OOTB heads.

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/24/10 04:09 AM

Thanks for your info,Brent! 322cfm @ .600 lift ain't too shabby! Aren't they only around 280-285 OTB??? Definately enough to support 650 hp,after porting! I would think high 10's would be attainable if I had them done. Thanks for your input Marc! Hope to see you at the track this summer! RandyB

Good luck over there at Jake's Randy.

I've been at 3 different chassis dyno facilities in the area so far, and Jakes is the best to date.

It should be good to compare notes too...although it's been several years since I've been, I still have the paperwork.

Good luck,Randy...I think you would be a 10.96 with improved head flow....How about 1.6 rockers??

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/24/10 04:40 PM

Teddy,I'm currently running Crane ductile in a 1.6 ratio, giving me approx. .615I and .620E w 260/266@ .050 duration. I'm almost certain it'll run 10.80's-10.90's with the head work. Not so sure about raising the CR though! Supposedly have enough V/P clearance for a .650 net lift cam! Not much room to play with. Hope you get your new bullet soon,You're gonna have some FUN!!! Randy, good luck at Jakes. From the pics I've seen that car is a beauty. Let us know how it all works out. I really need to get the Dart Sport scaled and they are real close. I could even drive it there! If you are still down that way after 3pm give me a shout, I'd like to meet you and the "X"!

Re: YET ANOTHER HOW MUCH DOES IT MAKE QUESTION!!! - 05/25/10 01:47 PM

Randy,

No problem posting some numbers.

To understand where they're coming from: At the time it ran the 11.24 in my signature, it was making 488rwhp on a "dynapack 3000" chassis dyno, which bolts to the axle flanges instead of being on tire rollers....a very weird looking setup.

Changed carb, intake, headers, exhaust....and was ready for another test but the dynapack guy told me not to come back again (he mainly works with import tuner cars with stick shifts, and he didn't like the torque the high stall converter/big ci combo put into his dyno.....There was a flashing red light on the display that said the torque capacity was at the limit)....So I went to Jakes Dynojet instead where it made 499 rwhp.

Never made it back to the track after that. But maybe this weekend it'll finally happen.
