68 Dart
I have a good buddy who runs lots of the Mopar events, but doesnt get on the computer, or probably hasnt even seen the web pages of Moparts before. I gotta say he is a hard worker and a great guy to boot.
He tells me he really like whoopin up on the Big Block guys.
I gotta say he does it pretty well.
One guy on the gang has a 493-496 or 500 what ever it is, built by a Popular Texas Mopar engine shop. The engine has cnc ported Indy heads large roller cam, everything is there. "They" dyno'd the engine and supposedly made well over 800hp...OK thats fine
The two cars is similar, the Big block car is a bit lighter, ladder bar car etc.
The small block car has 11" tires, leaf springs and cal tracks....
The little engine that "Could" has a flat tappet cam, iron heads, and no Dominator. He's having traction issue's and the car isnt consistent but man it runs very well.
Its a 4" stroke small block with Home ported cast iron W2's. Indy Intake, custom flat tappet cam that he and my machinist came up with. He shifts the engine at 6500 rpm's. The car has a 8 3/4 rear end and IIRC 4.88 gears.
I watched this small block car run 6 teens time after time after time. When traction issue's weren't a problem. 60ft range from low 1.4's to the best of a 1.28

Over this winter he plans to ladder bar the car with coil overs.
Id love to see him add a custom roller cam and a Dominator.
So Kudo's to you Clancy and your great running small block. I couldnt count the number of Indy headed Big blocks at this past weekends Chrysler Classic that he was eating alive from the starting line to the stripe with that little monster.
In there defense I have no idea what there combo's were or what ever. But watching that little car pull the front tires knee high gave me a diff perspective about the potential of a small block in the right hands.
BTW
He ran the engine all last year but had some smoking issue's so he replaced the Low tension ring pack with a standard tension set. This was when the engine was first built and they dyno'd the engine at a local guys place that really doesnt much work or testing for the public and the engine made 620ish HP.
Last year I watched the car run mid to high 6.2's in the 8th. This past winter he done some more head work, and changed the cam some. There head work and cam swap netted a gain of a tenth maybe a hair more.
The car isnt no light weight. It weighs about 2900 lbs without driver he told me. The slowest I seen the run at the classics was 110 mph in the 8th.
So here is to Clancy and all his hard work.
You now owe me a order of wings and a pitcher of beer at Buffalo Wild Wings now

There is another SB Dart around here in the Southern Dallas area(Ovilla, Midlothian, Waxahachie) that hands BB's there proverbial rear's all day long. No bottle, all throttle SB. 408StrokerDart will be showcasing his new rear suspension this weekend. I think most of you know who he is.

The term " good buddy " used to mean just that in the Sonny and Will days.
Somewhere down the road , it morphed into a closer , more personal , more intimate and definitely alternative form of address.
Suggesting a lifestyle practiced by people who dress a whole lot better than me , keep a much neater house and tend to favor colors found in rainbows.
In summary , you don't want to be someone's good buddy any more.
Ironic , but A** hole buddy is still pretty much socially acceptable.
Go figure.
That baby block gives me hope for my combination.
I am not terribly worried about the power level , but making it hook will be the key to having as much fun as your friend.

Clancy does have a very good running combo, and he sure is a great racer too.

I met Clancy last year at Clay City (along with meeting Bob Coomer there too) and he is one super nice guy!!! He does have that lil sb running good and to top it off he can race both ends of the track
