Well Ted I'm glad too hear you finally have a block,
so what is the estimated time before you get it on
the way back into the car.... what maybe a month

Depends on the machine shop,Mike...I estimate 2-3 weeks before completion...

Can you give us a rundown on the build or is it too early - my buddy is getting ready to send his block to the MS for a 512 build so it would be good to compare notes.
Have fun.

That`s great...........I love waiting for the "it`s ready" call from the machine shop but of course I hate the "price tag". Sounds like it`s going to be a bruiser.

Re: 383man - 05/07/10 07:19 AM

How tall are your rear tires ted?

that 456 is a lot of gear for that big stroker...no need to turn it too high

Re: 383man - 05/07/10 07:00 PM

Kevin...They are 10.5x 29.5..I am wondering about the gears myself...I think it may be happier with a 4:10?? Jimmy said the block should be done today or monday from the machine shop...He also convinced me to go with a static oil pickup...

Ted,

I don't think it's too much gear really. You have 29.5 tires so the 4.56 should be fine.

Re: 383man - 05/07/10 07:09 PM

Thanks...As soon as I wear these tires out...I want to go with a 30 or 31 inch tire..

Re: 383man - 05/07/10 07:59 PM

Depends on how high you want to turn it , you will have to run it at CF and see where you are at the stripe .

Re: 383man - 05/08/10 04:17 AM

Ted,my GTX hits the stripe at 6500-6600 rpm,with 30" slicks,a 4:56 gear,and shifting at 6200-6300 rpm! RandyB

Re: 383man - 05/09/10 12:14 AM

Thanks,Kevin and Randy...I know Jimmy did some massage work on the M-1 intake and I think he is putting in his spare T/A tranny brake..He also convinced me to put in a dry sump oil sytem,I think Steve ordered the parts for it..Thanks guys!! He says it will be 700 ponies...I believe him!! On a more somber note...My brothers house burned down this week and a close freind took his own life...He was only 57... I tell ya....My family and the completion of the old beater sure makes me want to stay around!!

Re: 383man - 05/09/10 12:21 AM

Thanks,Jeff....I messed up...It is a static pickup....My bad!! But it will last!!

Re: 383man - 05/09/10 01:00 AM

hmm, thats interesting, wonder why a static pick up. I'm using the swivel, it allows good pick up on decel as well as accel.
