2010 Nostalgia Pro Stock Schedule!

2010 Nostalgia Pro Stock Schedule! - 04/28/10 01:09 PM

Here’s the long awaited information on the status of the National Nostalgic Pro Stock Association. As you may know we have revived the organization that was founded back in 1994 by Dominic Durinzi and myself.

During the winter months, I have been in contact with approximately 75 individuals who have a serious interest in this organization. Of those, approximately 25 have cars that will be ready to race by June 1. I’m especially proud of Mark Pappas who has created a spot-on replica of Lee Shepard’s 1981 Camaro, complete with Reher-Morrison power and assistance from Buddy Morrison. Mark will be assisting me in coordinating activities in the Chicagoland area.

Our 2010 schedule is set and will include National Trail, Norwalk, Route 66 and Bowling Green. If there is enough interest, we may do a four car show at Indy in June 11-13. Within the next 30 days I will debut a new web site which will also contain a past and present photo gallery, along with a section on new builds. In the meantime, my current site has been updated with more info at www.jeffjohnsonmotorsports.com (click on "Drag Racing").

Currently I’m in the process of collecting detailed contact information and photos from everyone who is interested in participating. Go to my website and answer a few questions. This will grant you no-cost, charter membership in the NNPSA. You’ll then be updated on a regular basis.

Thanks!

We've been invited to the Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park (Indy), June 11-13. We need 4 cars to attend for this to happen. So far we have Lee Shepard's 1981 R-M Camaro. Any Mopar guys interested? We need to decide by this Friday.

Buddy Morrison passed on over a decade ago.

I like the insignia. Are you going to make up decals or patches ??

Good to see the interest growing in the Nastalgia Pro Stock classes. I have decided to bring the 68/69 Cuda out of it's 10 year retirement and put it into the Pro Stock ranks where it belongs. It's tired of being a show car. Maybe Eugene Coard could even be on the pit crew?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Let me give a few responses. BG - glad to see you'll be running with us again! Mike - we'll have decals for everyone and eventually T-shirts and hats. Oops - you know I meant David Reher. Glassman - sorry to hear that you're banned from the Classics. I'd love to have you race with us! Fred - thanks for chiming in. The rule says MAXIMUM of four speeds. PGs are fine. The NHRA rules of the day never specifically addressed intake manifolds, only (2) 4-barrels required. The early cars used modified cast intakes and sheetmetal became popular soon after. So... any intake will be allowed as long as it fits the spirit/era of the car. Cars will run on an index, 8.00-10.00, NSS style. No payouts this year, only free entry and $100 tow money. Of course anyone who races for money picked the wrong hobby! The complete rules are on www.jeffjohnsonmotorsports.com.

OK, Indy this weekend is a no go. That's fine, there is plenty of other nostalgia racing on tap at IRP. Visit www.good-guys.com for event info. WE WILL be running N/PS at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Friday, July 9th. I know this is not a Mopar, but here's a pic of Mark Pappas' '81 Lee Shepard tribute car from Chicagoland. He was so excited about our program he started from scratch last fall and just finished building this car! There are more under construction!

During the Mopar Southern Nationals at South Georgia Motorsports Park near Valdosta Georgia a few weeks ago, one of the track managers asked if there was anything that the participants would like to see at the track in the future. I brought up the revival of the nostalgia pro stock association, and they seemed very receptive to the idea. If you guys want to head south where match racing got it's start, maybe someone could contact the track to see about setting something up. It's a very nice facility, with great people running the track. Here's the link...
