Take it for what it's worth.........the guy I bought mine from ( used ) did just that.
I tend to side with the folks who designed the tires in deals like this.......I'd be getting tubes.

Ya, I guess since I`ve been driving and racing w/these tires I don`t know what I`m talking about ESPECIALLY since I didn`t design em.

I have ran mine with no tubes but didnt realize I needed too. When I bought mine a few yrs ago,I dont think their website stated that I NEEDED to run tubes or I would have. Just looked at their site because I need to order some new ones and the site does say TOO use them. So I will with my next set.

THEY also say not to run spools on the street.......or 8" converters, or roller cams....get the point? Do what you need to do to make you feel better except now that $31.00 savings just went out the window...

If tubes are simply to keep them aired up , que sera sera .........if they can prevent the " what if " , then it is 120.00 well spent.
I have heard of them losing air sitting , but that may have been a rim issue too
But since I am not an expert , I will defer to the guys with the degrees on the wall.
That's just me.

I just got off the phone with Dan from Hoosier in Manchester,Ct. I asked him what he thought about running tubes WITH the QTP's. He said the ONLY reason Hoosier recomends tubes with the QTP's is because over time, air will leak out.If you are going to race the car all the time, you should NOT run tubes. He said you can,but it is better not to run the tubes when racing.

What I have found with mine are, if my car sits for a long period of time, they go flat but if I drive it 2-3 times a week, they dont.

ANY tire will go flat over time.......even your production car/truck tires do. Funny, so Hoosier DOES NOT recommend tubes after all...............

was told by the Hoosier dealer in town that tubes are not needed.
soapy water showed that a set of Quick Times i once had leaked air at the point where the date code(?) was cast into the tire.

If you run tubes you better also screw the tires to rim when you have some power in the motor.
I ran a couple of runs with QTP's but since I didn't want to drill my steel wheels I ran them tubeless.
Did have a bit of trouble of getting them to seal on the wheelbeads, so I layed down a bead of silicon-rubber in the wheels before mounting them.

This is what had happened after just one run, look at the marks...

Eventually the silicon started to wad up in the beads causing a small leak themselves again.
So don't do as I did

We run slicks on steel wheels with no tubes, works great but they do air down when they sit for a week.

These are the wheels I plan to run(ordered them today)
and even though I hate to do that to brand new wheel,
YES I am going to drill and screw the tires Ron...

If your going to go tubeless, before drilling those wheels I would soap the insides of the tires with dawn dish soap, clean the outer bead and coat with 3-m rubber trim [ yellow death ] adheasive.

I never run tubes. Never ever. My tire Guy said the ONLY thing a tube does is help the tire hold air. Hoosier says they are tube type because they have a tendency to leak air. But, I have not had one lately that leaked much air if any. Right now my Right tire will leak about a pound in one week, but did not do that when it was new. It's BALD now

Some say that a tube will add strength or integrity to the sidewall, but I am not so sure about that.

If you screw those breand new wheels you are crazy

I just do not run them at the strip with the lower air pressure too much until a couple weeks goes by and the soap dries. I do not go beloe #13 PSI if they are resently mounted and I mark them and watch them. If they move a couple inches on a run I am OK with that. But I have had one go 3/4 the way around in 4 runs before with no problems. But like I said, I shoot for something less than that

Hate to see you do a burn out with the rim instead of the tire. Or would that be called a burn in?

Re: Can you/do you run QTP tires tubeless???? - 04/23/10 11:39 PM

I ran mine tubeless also. Mine was a heavy street car that ran 9's with these tires. They NEVER leaked any air. I did prep them with a lot of soap on the interior of the tire. I poured it in and coated the entire inside. When it dried and some of the soap puddled on the bottom, I moved the soap around until it was all absorbed by the tire.
Eventually the tires got used up. Had them for years and sat in the garage over long winters without lossing air. BTW, these were also screwed to the rims.

My son and I dont run tubes. He still uses QTP Hoosier's and I am using the Hoosier radial slicks. I can tell you they never leak air. They both sat all winter and did not drop any air. They hold air good. Ron

Re: 383man - 04/24/10 05:23 PM

I usually use tubes and screws, but last year I had a few runs left in my old QTP's and decided to try a new pair tubeless w/o screws in a spare set of wheels. I just checked pressure this week and had lost no air all winter. I used Palmolive dish soap in them, and NAPA bead sealer on the beads.
