1.5 vs 1.6 Rocker Ratio

1.5 vs 1.6 Rocker Ratio - 04/14/10 02:52 AM

Has anyone tried using 1.6 ratio rocker arms with Edelbrock heads? I thought about switching to 1.6's to increase the lift on my 555 lift Isky cam but I am wondering if I will run into interference problems with the pushrods and heads?

I put a new set (two years ago now) of Harland Sharp 1.6 on my Eddy RPM BB heads, I had to grind on one (#6 intake port) head and ended up putting a hole in the side of the #6 intake port CNC ported heads I had it welded up and it is fine now my Harland Sharps check at the retainers to actually have 1.64 ratio instead of 1.60 I have another set of Harland Sharp 1.5 (twenty years old, not much use on them )that are on a unported set of Eddy RPM and they fit fine, no mods required I also have a set of Indy SR heads that I put a set of T&D 1.65 rockers on and they needed grinding also, no holes on them IHTHs. BTW, the change of rockers did help that motor, The old set of CAT rockers checked at the retainers to be 1.46 ratio instead of 1.60

IF your using 3/8's push rods I would think you would have a clearnce issue.

I did.

Thanks for the replys. I'm currently running Harland Sharp 1.5 with the Edelbrocks and no issues. I thought trying a set of 1.6's like the ones for sale by a member here would be a good way to see if the car would like more lift. Since the heads have not been ported I have my doubts. My pushrods are 5/16 Comp Cams.

Thanks

I tried both Crane 1.5 and 1.6 with Big block RPM and had no clearance issues. Did not notice a big increase in power either though, so I now have Harland 1.5's.

I thought that an increase in lift will increase torque, not horse power?

That depends on where the head flows best.
