Mock up coil over shock...you guys will love this...

Well I wasn't ready to buy front coil over shocks for my duster yet, but I was at the point that I needed to fab up the brackets before paint. So I had to come up with something... After thinking for a little while, I made a trip to Lowes. Turns out 3" (I.D) schedule 30 PVC is very close to the final diameter of the coil over shocks ( 3 1/2" vs. 3 9/16") After some measuring, calculating, and cutting...this is what I came up with.



First you need a 3" Schedule 30 PVC cap, drill a hole in the end, and insert a Slip fit/Threaded 1/2 "T" fitting in the end.

Secure the "T" fitting with a threaded/slip 1/2 coupler

Repeat with a 2" PVC Cap, and the same "T" fitting.

I inserted a piece of tubing to step down from 1/2" ID, down to 3/8's like a standard attachment bolt is. I just wired in the tube to keep it in place...

Then you need a Schedule 30 3" to 2" coupler. I ground the inner stop out, and carefully ground the Diameter so a 2" PVC tube could slide in and out...

Measure and cut your 2" and 3" PVC carefully (depending on the shock travel you're looking to duplicate) And wallah... cheap adjustable mock up shock!!!

Installed for the mounting bracket mock up!

Last one... It really helped me ensure that I was putting the top mounting bracket in the right spot. Also, it allows me to buy the shocks at the very end of the project, so I can see where the ride height will truely end up, and figure out the correct shock length...
