Anyone using an Oval X-PIPE??? - 03/31/10 09:24 PM

Is anyone using a ram air restoration item sold as a 3.5" Oval X pipe? www.ramairrestoration.com
I am interested in buying it for my 65 B body.
A lil help needed here and opinion if anyone has any. I have a 500" RB cast head (550-600hp) with Hooker super comp. 2" primary into 3.5" collector which would go into this 3.5" Oval X into 12" or 16" Spintechs. The other concern is 3.5" muffler out to 3" tailpipes to the rear. Should I try to run 3.5" tailpipes over the 3"?
Does this combo seem like a decent setup? I appreciate all the effort here from the group. Thanks brothers!

I don't know about the oval X pipe, But I'm not sold on the Spintechs. We put a pair of them on my brother-in-laws 460 powered motorhome back when we were using it to tow my race trailer. Lots of noise and lots of backpressure. I think Ultraflows are quiter and flow better.

The guy that designed the Spintechs (Dr. Gas) commented to us that the (straight thru design) Dynomax Ultra-Flo flows better than his Spintech, and any other baffled/chambered muffler for that matter.

Boyd Butler, aka Dr.Gas is a great guy, btw.

Billy,there is plenty of room under that boat for round pipe with "X" and stay 3.5 out the back.Being from LI,you know you are supposed to run a minimum of 3 chambered muffler at E/TOWN.I went with hooker aero chambers{they were approved by e/town tech} when I took off my 3.5 Ultra flows and installed a 4 inch stainless exhaust out to the rear bumber.

Oh,by the way,here are the 3 chamber Hookers approved by E/TOWN tech.E/town will not allow a "STRAIGHT THROUGH" design mufflers or bullits except on Sunday

No exhaust guru's here? The thumbs down does nothing for me. Why is the Question. What didnt you like abot them. Im running a big block mopar not a 460 Ford motorhome. Come on give me a break. If you have some info pass it on if its relative.

I have some issues with this comment.... first off,
if you have the muffs the farther to the rear the exhaust
is cooler and is MUCH easier to control the "note"
and reduces in volume(size) so a 3.5 tailpipe is just
harder to package and gains nothing.... specially
on a street car... in a race car with muffs we dont
even waste our time with tailpipes(we dont want the
added weight if we have to have muffs for a class)

I guess you're right. The exhaust from a 440 Mopar is way different than the exhaust from a 460 Ford. Go with the Spintechs.

That was my thoughts as well The smaller tailpipes should not pose much of a restriction
Those ovals look like a great idea

Mike,you are right about not really NEEDING 3.5 tail pipes,,,but they do look better

The other thing is if he has a stock fuel tank,it is hard to do tail pipes.SO I would dump right behind the rear tires.

And lastly

what about "TWEEN" cars like mine

layin' down a good pass with tails out the bumper is plain cool
