Looks like Scott has been busy in the last week cuz he called me to tell me we should be ready to make some pulls tomorrow. 
I knew we were getting close but I thought we had a little more to do 
Here's a recap just to rehresh everyones memory. 
72 440 block bored .030 decked so pistons are .010 in the hole
Wiesco Pro Tru pistons 12.05-1 compression
K1 rods
Facotry forged crank turned .010/.010 and balanced.
Cam
Comp cams Magnum series
Duration at .050" Lift 262 int./262 exh
Actual lift using 1.6 intake and 1.5 exh 578 int and 555 exh.
Installed at 108.5*'s
Edelbrock heads
Milled to .064 cc chambers

Sounds like a good combo i wish i was close to the motor phase instead of "the ugly mockup motor" phase Lol! i would guess just under 600 hp

After a little tweaking it made 622hp on alky last time.
We'll be using a gas carb to break it in and seat the rings then it's all Booze after that 
Mike, my dad is in the same boat. He has to work but I'm hoping he can leave a little early and watch some of the pulls. 
I'm sure there will be a few things we need to button up as well as breaking it in.

My junk 906 headed 470 made 614 hp and 598 ft lbs. so I`ll guess 640hp and 580+ tq. Can`t wait to hear the results.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse anyone 
It made 535hp on gas as it came out of the car.
We then put an 850 APD alky carb on it and made a few timing changes and got it up to the 622hp.
it was on the same motor just the 2 different fuels

I would think the increased compression and increased head flow should be worth around 80 to 100 HP.

That port was on the intake when I bought it (swap meet 
) But yes, I was planning on using it for a leanout valve.
Unless that's not a good spot for it.

I'll have my laptop out there so I'll do my best to post them before I even leave there
Pics (if I have a chance to take any that are worth posting) would be up hopefully in the evening.
Sheets have to go to my parents house to get scanned and video takes me a while to edit and upload so I will do my best to get all that to you guys as quick as I can.

I didn't know you could gain 100hp. just
by switching fuels? Now everyone one here is
going to switch.
Also aren't those headers a little big for that motor?

A good bracket engine should make at least 1.5hp per, so that's at least 670+hp.

Wow, talk about inflation! Just to back track a bit,, it is a 440 with edelbrock heads and a mild(er) cam right? And then you look at Captain Budgets 440 that made 580hp and ran 10.50s in a 3700lb car...I guess thats the difference in dynos and track altitudes and whatnot.
Now I really want to see what it puts out...and runs..

Those are some good flowing Eddie (RPM?) heads. It is a street/strip type cam (IMO), so with the alky I am thinking 646 hp.
I am curious about the power curve and torque peak with those 2-1/8" headers on a 446 CID. How long are the primaries?

My 499 made more torque but less HP with INDY SR heads, intake, and a Dominator. If Alky is worth that much I might have to switch...

It made 535hp on gas as it came out of the car.
We then put an 850 APD alky carb on it and made a few timing changes and got it up to the 622hp.
it was on the same motor just the 2 different fuels

I'm confused.... was the old combination (unported Edelbrocks, sub 9:1 motor, the one that made 622 HP) the one that ran the 10.96 in your sig? & your car weighs around 3000 lbs race weight (assuming you weigh 180 lbs)? (2820 car weight) Is that all correct?
& now the new motor makes 760, with same off shelf Comp cam (if I'm reading all this right) & is going in same 3000 lb car?
If I've got all that right... will be interesting to see what car picks up @ track VS old combo.

Is this corrected to STP (Standard Temperature Pressure) or is it the J1349 standard? Just out of curiosity--What were the BSFC's, BMEP, BSAC's? Honestly that is one stout motor for sure-all things considered. You are making 1.7 HP/ci! J.Rob

You will make all the naysayers look bad when your ripping off some 9.30-40's this summer! What camshaft are you using? So this was done on alcohol? I do remember being impressed of the power you eeked-out on dyno with the original motor.

Those are some serious numbers. That should move your weight car down the track at an impressive rate.
7400 rpm = good flowing heads and not big CID
I am really surprised by the rpm (TQ & HP) with that cam.
Gaining that much power from the old 622 hp engine, should be worth almost 1 second in the 1/4 mile, and 1.5 from the 540 hp. You will feel that!
Look for some mid 9's

It was amazing watching this happen today. 60 horse difference, swapping nothing but to alky. Watched it and helped hold the carb for the 2 inch APD Black Widow spacer. 60 horse switching to jungle juice!! I don't think the engine ever went above 143 degrees ! Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall, guys..

After the build, on gas, first pull it made 699 @ 6700. Then he made several more pulls. Switched to alky, it made 759.. Where is the 150, pre rebuild?
Are you comparing the above hp vs torque?

Yes, we actually did 3 pulls on race gas after seating the rings.
On race gas it made 712 hp @6900 & 564 ft#'s @ 5600 .
On alky it made 747hp @ 6900 & 606 ft#'s @ 5800
Everything about those 2 pulls were the same except the carb and the fuel

No, Look at the the gas vs alky pulls I posted above. Everything on those were the same including what we pulled the motor to. Alky is worth a bit more but not 150 hp.

wow, that's incredible. you should be looking at 9.15-9.20 1/4 mile E.T. at around 141+ MPH now at 3000 lbs race weight.

i think he may be thinking of the old motor. It got, iirc, 535 HP on gas and 622 HP on Alky..or he may be comparing the old alky number (622) to the new alky number(759)..still not 150 HP but could be construed that way, i guess

Those are really good numbers. Koffels is impressive for sure.
All the dyno sheets show 35 degrees locked out. Did the timing stay there for all the pulls? (I didnt have time to look at the videos, sorry if I missed something there) That is surprising to me. My car/motor has always liked a little more timing than that, but I guess every ignition system and balancer are a little different. Sorry if you covered this in an earlier post, do you remember where the cam is degreed in at?
I am anxious to see how it runs in your car. I bet it will be sub 9.50s for sure. Are you planning any more upgrades or changes on your car as far as headers, fuel delivery or converter?
That should be a fun ride for sure.

MD, Dad and I were discussing where the next weak link might be. Hopefully I don't find anything any time soon. I have a billet drum in the trans and a blanket so I'm feeling good about that. Over the time I've had this car I've tried to build it so it would be ready for more motor when I got the money for it. All I can do at this point is hoipe for the best.

Wild Bill i may have missed it but did you try adding more timing and fattening up the carb some? i would think it would kill the peak numbers slightly but put bigger numbers at a lower rpm. alcohol motors seem to just keep making power by adding more jet. I see some guys asking if methanol makes that much more power i believe its 10-15% more than gas.

No, you didn't miss it. We didn't do either. Come to think of it, We didn't even have to tweak the 4 corner idle screws.
Thumper, here's the spacer. Black Widow Carb Spacer. Yes they have them for both the 4150 and 4500 carbs. It's a slick piece. It starts as a 4 hole then transitions to an open.

I beleive that was Scott's goal all along. When we started this he mentioned he wanted to get some exposer in the "everday average joe racer" arena.

Are you saying this becuase of the last video?
That video is not representative of how it was tested.
If you look closly at the pics I posted you can see a sliding door that houses an exhuast fan as well as an opening in the ceiling above the carb for fresh air. there are 2 tubes that come up to connect to the headers to direct the exhuast out.

They were running gas, but still,,,
