Some Cuda Progress - 03/17/10 01:29 AM

I know many may be wondering how the 67 Cuda drag car is coming along. Took some pix today, we are finnishing up the exhaust. Put the gauges in last time. Fire Core wires, fuel, trans cooler lines and shifter cable all hooked up as is the fan and other stuff in front. Please excuse the dust, you know how it is...

And one last one for Rick

No fuel lines are supposed to be within 6" of the firewall incase of trans explosion.
They made me move my line and regulator forward so it wasn't close to the firewall.

That rule is based on the flywheel location with the motor in the stock location With cars set up like his you need to check with your local tech people before moving any of the fuel sytem parts near the firewall

It was the regulator they had a problem with, not the fuel lines themselves.

From the NHRA rulebook:
"Cool cans, fuel-distribution blocks, etc. must be
located at least 6 inches forward of the flywheel/bellhousing area on
rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vehicles, and on opposite side of
flywheel/housing area on front-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicles. Fuel
pressure gauge isolators, with steel braided line, may be mounted
on firewall.
....Fuel lines (except steel braided lines) in the
flywheel/bellhousing area must be enclosed in a 16-inch length of
steel tubing, 1/8-inch-minimum wall thickness, securely mounted as
a protection against fuel-line rupture. Fuel lines may not be routed
in the driveshaft tunnel."

Thanks Dave and others for that info. Now it looks like I am cool with the line where it is. I do appreciate Bill trying to help me, tho. This is the first car of this type I have owned and my buddy has been out of racing since the 80s...thats his belly in one of the pix(he told me not to show that one..haha) he has done all the painting and fab work on the car...which has been considerable as we started with a crude roller i bought cheap off ebay. That was 4 years ago...but like Al said, we shoulda been done a long time ago..
