Went To SGMP Today

Went To SGMP Today - 02/28/10 03:53 AM

The wife and myself went to SGMP today and watched
some racing... seen some very fast cars and a couple
of crashes... no one was hurt but sure tore up their
cars..... meet a couple of our guys there, Bob (EH100)
and Aaron(W5Dart378), had a great time BSing with them...
seen both of them make a pass, Bobs van made a good
clean pass.... Aaron put his Dart on the BUMPER, he
came out and it started climbing till it was on the
chute mount when he pedaled it coming down pretty hard
but fortunately nothing was hurt.... great rides
both of them. I must say that SGMP is a ZOO, I never
seen so many people on the starting line, people
were standing every where and guys pulling their
burn outs dodging people... CRAZY. Was pretty cool(temp)
there today with a pretty good wind blowing right
up the track which I'm sure didnt help Aaron with
his wheelie. That place was so SLOW getting cars
down the track that they have to go back tomorrow
to finish the race(they only got 1 round in today)
Well its on to home for the wife and me starting
tomorrow........ Bummer... but I have work to do
at home

Yep, have to agree with Wayne....don't judge SGMP by that event ORTC is a different animal.....won't see that at the majority of events there

Wade sure put some teeth in that track from what I've heard

No I dont think its like that on a normal basis...
and yes that track was biting, seen alot of cars
standing it up.... one of the mustangs held the wheels
up about 2' to about the 330' mark... I had heard
that the owner didnt expect that many cars(place
was FULL) but things like 1 person working the window
at the concession stand was real slow... just simple
little things that could have been better.... parking
was a joke.... park anywhere you can fit in, no one
directing traffic and being the first time there I
was some what lost as to where to park, I ended up
parking next to a rig and asked the guy if I was
going to be in the way, he said I was fine so thats
where I parked

Mike my guess is they've cut back on personel try to save a few bucks in this economy....

It's always run very smooth when I've been there...

Did you get to see Wolf make that 4.44 pass...?????

Watched it most of the day. Unreal coverage. One of our customers, Vern House, crashed pretty badly. Walked out but totalled his 8.5 tire Camaro. Glad you got to see that stuff, Mike. Have a safe drive home.. See any of our stickers out there??

Re: Went To SGMP Today - 03/01/10 04:50 PM

First off, there was 96 cars in the big class, 74 in another and 56 in another. Those are just the heads up cars, not counting the index and open comp cars. So they were trying to get nearly 300 cars, up and down a cold racetrack. One round of qualifying took 3 hours to complete and that was assuming things went smooth. You can't turn those high HP cars loose on a cold track, once the sun goes down. As far as running them slow, it was an 1/8 mile race on a 1/4 mile track. Some were missing the turn and having to go to the end and some dropped the chutes and could not make the end. Also a couple oil downs. That did slow things up at times, but I still thought they did an excellent job, given the number of cars and the weather. The fact that they could not finish on Saturday was a direct result of car count and weather, NOT a poorly run event. I was there for 4 days and while at times there were too many people on the starting line, I never saw the ZOO or people dodging cars on the burnout as mentioned.

All I will add is I was uncomfortable starting a burnout with people standing with there backs to me between me and the starting line.
