Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/25/10 03:05 PM

Summit has a pretty good deal going on these pistons..The first is an SRP flat top..It has a comp. distance of 2.062 in. and piston head volume of + 6.00ccs...The Wiseco has a comp. distance of 2.050 in. and a piston head volume of + 4.00 ccs.. Both are flat tops and for a big block...Which would you choose and why?? Thanks!! Ted

For me it would be 2 factors... what compression I
was shooting for and then what the deck height is

You already know what I would say and why

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/25/10 03:39 PM

Raff...I want the most compression I can get...My heads are 80cc but could be shaved to 75cc..Bill...I already know what you would...Errr are using!!

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/25/10 03:55 PM

I see they're both for a 1.094 wrist pin?

Are you going to use aftermarket rods or stock? Most aftermarket ones are .008" shorter than stock so that will play into it, if you're trying to keep any milling done to the block to a minimum.

What heads are you using? We shaved my 84cc Eddys down .090 and got the chambers to 64 cc for a 12-1 CR

Ted,
Why don't you quit diddlin' around with flat tops and just put DOME pistons in it? These are Ross #99501, won't fit your rods though, .990 pins. You can use #99500.

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/26/10 02:07 AM

ted it sounds like the wisco pistons you are looking at are the same ones that are in my 440 short block.my pistons are so posed to 0.012 down in the hole. with a 0.039 head gasket and a 74 cc Indy head i am so posed to only have 10.5 compression. but the Wallace engine calculator says i will have around 12.2. ted i would just buy some diamond 14cc dome pistons. they are so posed to be built to work with the edelbrock/ mopar aluminum heads. what happened to getting the the stoker kit?? Brian...Nice pistons!! Vern...You must have got a good buy to have 3 sets of 2295s... Bobby...I didn't go with the stroker...I know it would make more power but I really don't want to go that fast...The car just needs to be consistant..I have been buying a few trinkets all winter...My last major purchase is the pistons...Talked to the body guy last night and as soon as it warms up a bit,it goes in for paint and the Hemi front end treatment...Should look pretty good!! Sounds great ted. what color are you going to paint it? what is the Hemi front end treatment? Ted let me know if there is anything off my old motor you might need.thanks Bobby

Mpar65, FWIW, Scott did a CR calcutaion with my pistons sitting .010 in the hole, a 039 head gasket, and figured a 74 CC chamber and came up with 11.09-1. When we actually milled the heads they cc'd at 64.6 cc's and he racalculated and we now have 12.05-1.

I'm not sure how my Pro Tru pistons compare with yours as far as vavle releif volume but I would think your problably in the 11-1 range.

Why are you changing pistons? Was there carnage? If your old TRWs are still good, I don't see what you are gaining?

thanks for the info bill. that would be cool if i had 11-1. but i wonder if that is to much for 93 pump gas? I am thinking about trying E85 this year? your car sounds like it will be a fun ride. what et are you shooting for? I hope to get mine to run 10.50 in the 1/4 and dive it on the street once in a while.best of luck Mopar65

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/27/10 06:17 PM

The cut off for PRO in the CCE is 9.50 so I told Scott I want to stay above that.

I'm kinda gearing up for high 9's as I hear similar or mabye even slighlty less built motors in much heavier cars running 10.0's everwhere I look. I wasn't far off of being legal for sub 10's when this all started so that was a blessing.

That being said, I really don't know what to think and I'm trying to remain realistic as to not disapoint myself. Kinda hard when every one is telling you "your gonna need a diaper after you let go of the button that first time"

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/27/10 08:11 PM

best of luck to you and i hope your car runs the numbers you are shooting for.IF i get to go to the norwalk race this year. I hope my car is fast enough to race in the 10.0 class. But i dont think it will be that fast. but one can only wish though lol. best of luck Bobby

Ted do you have a roll bar or cage in your car ?
Posted By: tboomer

Just the bars,Vern!!

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/27/10 09:40 PM

roll bar can only go 11.00 now.. 10.99 you need a cage. that why I need to get dart done !

Not me! I got one. 14 point cage. Now, if I can just get it run fast enough to need one. Maybe my new engine will do it.
Actually, when I started back racing 2 years ago, after setting out for 13 years, the cage was the first thing that was done. Old roll bars thet were in the car weren't legal for steet, much less S/P.

Re: Please Compare These Pistons... - 02/28/10 09:46 AM

I would do this :

Ebay the crank , rods , pistons , etc....separately. get what you can .

stop messing around and call 440 Source and get a 4.15 kit and be DONE .

Have Jim or Steve or a machine shop check the kit.

Then grind a tiny bit off your oil pickup boss and bores for clearance.

DONE.

Come on Ted...I know you've been working 60 hours a week........BUST OUT THAT CREDIT CARD !!!

The car is what it is...And I am happy going low 11.0s...
