REAR AXLE SPRING PAD QUESTION?????????????????????????? - 02/22/10 01:12 AM
I am narrowing my 8 3/4 rear and tacked on the new spring pads and put it in the car for a trial fit before I get too far. Well the locating hole in the new mopar performance spring pads are larger than the originals causing a loose fit on the springs locating pin. Will this cause any issues? Can I use them? Should I find some spring pads with the smaller hole?

I'd get larger center bolts and drill out the springs.

Weld in spacers, or plug and re-drill the holes again. The Mopar Perf units are basically the only ones that have this problem, all the others have the 1/2" hole

Get a 3/8 pipe nipple and cut it up to make some spacers then tack them in place.

I was going to say the same , weld up and redrill or use some tubing as a spacer.

The larger spring center hole won't cause a problem because the hole in the shock plate locates the springs and the U-bolts locate the housing.
If you are paranoid about the large hole, just install a couple lock washers under the head of the spring center-bolt.

Thanks fellas, now I feel better. Why would the mopar perches have such a big locater hole instead of the stock size?

Mopar perches are actually stock Dakota pieces.
