Gotta little more done

Gotta little more done - 01/30/10 01:47 AM

I finally got back out to Scott's and got a little more done.

Firt step was to measure the piston depth so we knew how much to cut. I was a little surprised that they were fairly close all around. RH side was .0435 in the out board cylinders while the LH was .039 and .0415. For some reason I expected it have more of a varience.

Well it has no varience now. The deck was cut to give an .010 depth Alot better than my previous .102 in the hole

I also got the inside of the block painted. Surprisingly didn't get much on me though

While I painting Scott started working on the heads.

OOTB flow was 269 @ 800 on a supre flow bench

Flowed after getting worked they went to 306 @ 800. I think he said they were at 298 at 600 and 700. Maybe he should chime in with the all the flow data in case my memory is shot

Some comparison shots

Inside of the block all painted. Now for some color on the outside

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/30/10 02:43 PM

Lookin good........ There should be a pretty big difference in performance. What does your car weigh w/you on board?
Posted By: WILD BILL

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/30/10 03:03 PM

Scott's hoping for 700+ HP. I really don't know what to expect and am trying to remain realistic.

The paint was Rustoleum rust metal primer and it's purpose is to speed up oil return as well as seal the metal and seal in any residule casting sand that may still be there.

Car weighs 2820 W/o me and 2960 on the line. Might be a little less now with some parts on this build being lighter than what I was running.

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/30/10 03:16 PM

Bill you are a real artist with that brush I'll give you a call to paint mine on the next go around

You'll like having a painted block. It makes clean up a lot easier.

Should make some good power with a little wind in it

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 12:58 AM

Does that paint stay one pretty good? I wanted to paint the inside of mine, but was concerned that it would come off and clod up oil pick up or mess up oil pump.
What about out side? Just paint or primer first?

No I hit the wrong dam key. I weigh around 160 so it should read 2980

I'm sure the paint will hold up fine inside the block.

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 01:23 AM

Are you going to also put paint on the inside, or leave it primer?

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 01:44 AM

Wild Bill I have two 50 year old Farm All tractors they painted the inner block at the factory and not one speck of paint has flaked off either one,,, just thought I'd throw that in there..... I do like your idea
Posted By: WILD BILL

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 01:58 AM

It wasn't my idea. Scott does it to all the race motors he builds.
Posted By: blownzoom440

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 01:59 AM

scott just wants the primer inside.

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 03:30 AM

Most of last years motor is not being used. We are using the block and forged crank that I had in my garage.

It is a factory forged crank though so no stroker.

Pistons are from Weisco's Pro Tru line and the rods are K1 H beams. My old motor had Hyper pistons and LY rods W/ a cast crank.

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 04:30 AM

Bill...Did you go with flat tops or domes...Did ya pick a cam yet??
Posted By: WILD BILL

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 04:46 AM

Flat tops

The plan was to use to use my 555 solid flat tapet cam.

Then again not much of the original plan is holding true so

Re: Gotta little more done - 01/31/10 04:48 AM

You got some flow now out of the heads, scrap that street cam and get some wind in there. Just let Scott do his thing and let you write the checks. BTW who is building a trans to hold up to the new power level.
