Anybody use quench domes? - 01/26/10 01:53 AM

Thinking about using KB236's on my 440 0 deck with a set of 906's. Anybody done this?

the quench domes work real well in a N/A street/strip motor, shoot for around .040" quench. Also be sure to follow KB's recommended gap sizing for the top ring otherwise you'll have issues.

I've done both small block and big block. The Quench area in the stock heads can be different depths on the same head. We used a 3" green 36 grit disc to get them all close. Finished them off with a 2" scotch brite pad. The small block worked very well. Over 12-1 on pump gas with a roller (255@.050? I forget). The RB didn't seem to help as much. Only 9.7-1 with a224@.050 Hyd cam,3.23 gear it will rattle ocasionally on 93 octane at 36 degrees total.

I have them in my 63. It is a stock bottom end 440 with .030 over KB quench pad pistons. I have 906 heads and as was said the head chambers were not all the same and I had to do some work with them to get them close. Also with recon rods my quench pads varied about .003 difference above the deck. But I have between .040 to .045 quench on all my cylinders. It works good as I use the MP .557 cam and have it at 10.0 comp. It runs fine on 92 pump with 38 total timing. Its really a mild 440 but will push my 3700 lb 63 street car to mid 11's on 92 pump. Ron
