Subject: Eighth-mile Indexes
January 25, 2010
For immediate release:
In recognition of the growing interest and promotion of NSS racing at short tracks and to provide a national standard of competition, the NSSNA endorses the following sequence of eighth-mile elapsed time indexes.
AAA/FX - 5.60
AA/FX - 5.75
A/FX - 5.90
B/FX - 6.05
C/FX - 6.20
NSS/A - 6.35
NSS/B - 6.65
NSS/C - 7.00
NSS/D - 7.30
NSS/E - 7.60
NSS/F - 7.95
NSS/G - 8.25
These indexes provide a structure for both heads-up racing between cars of the same class and also handicapping eliminator competition, identical to the long-time use of indexes in quarter-mile racing.
While the method of analysis is proprietary, these indexes are not general approximations or direct conversions from quarter-mile indexes.
They are based on analysis of data recorded from actual competition at NSS races over a period of several years and from tracks over a wide geographical area.
The NSSNA believes they reflect an accurate and reliable method of race management for all short tracks.
The committee:
Doug Duell, Dave Duell Classic
John Grinwald, Nostalgia Super Stocks Inc.
Clay Kossuth, TexasOutsiders
Jim Netherland, NMCA NSS series
Bob Wilkiewicz, Nostalgia Super Stocks Inc.
