How do you earn extra coin for racing ? $$$$$$ - 01/07/10 08:15 PM

For those in the crowd that aren't independently wealthy (like myself) how do you earn yourself extra income/opportunities to apply towards your racing effort/project? What things do you do to make this hobby more comfortable financially? Inquiring minds would like to know! Thanks in advance.......

I do welding, machine work plus fab work, building chassis's
(not much chassis work anymore)plus headers

Last year I painted One car for transmission work,
One car for Rear end work to another friend, Painted another one for machine work. Sold Parts,
Painted roof panels for a construction buddy, and did several odd jobs. Then I painted my car changed engine & trans to go racing 4 times last year
I'll be checking into rehab right after this email.
I do howerver have e great circle of friends that help with the habbit!

I wire and plumb race cars for friends, also build motors , transmissions, and rear ends, for friends cars.

Best way to get a million dollars from racing is to start with two!!

I try to win enough to pay the expenses.
If I get really lucky may pay some of the initial expense but that hasn't happened yet.

Ain't that the truth. Had my first IRS Audit in 2009 for 2007. They wanted records for EVERYTHING, and then some. Brutal.

End result was no change, but what a royal PIA. If I didn't have records for every itemized deduction/income...I would have paid for it, plus penalty and interest.

Couple days ago I received a customer satisfation survey from the IRS...Are you (fill in the blank) kidding me?

we buy and sell stuff all the time.
you have to get in cheap, and have what people want.

but my race car has always taken first place in my life.
they tell me that is why im single, but i dont get it.

I work lots of OT at work in advance when i need to buy parts or im going to a race out of town .I also horse trade parts here and there for extra $.I do without(my fun $ but not my families) if i have from time to time as well ...

Thats how I did it. Then they took our overtime pay (but not the work) away with no bump in base. Then they took away my base too last October.

I am a tech for a Chrysler,Dodge,Jeep dealer..I have to bust my butt everyday to make a buck..I also do some side work sometimes..but burns me out..

Been working for Dodge since I was 17 years old..

Lately I have been finding some decent parts cars and stripping them for the extra coin,sometimes we find good fixer upper cars to sell whole. I havent taken bill money for my cars but on occasion have charged a couple higher price items. I do like the college girl training program though

Aside from the regular job as a Mechanical Engineer for a big defense contractor, I have a small consulting business that I operate on the side (in my spare time paying taxes like usual). My wife and I also own a hair salon and spa that is finally generating some income. The short answer is I simply work myself to death.

Sorry, the IRS still want's you to report any "swaps" as income. You trade for a value, you have to report it as income. If it's not for an income, you have to report the loss. If someone you did business with get's audited, and your name pops up in their Audit....Guess what?
It's worse than ever now as the FED looks for money...

That's why I have a CPA.

Just trying to open some eyes here. A friend was audited last year and had to argue for two weeks about the $50 check he received from his brother in law to pay for funeral flowers!

when i'm not pimping the neighbours wife i buy heat pumps from a warranty repair dept & install on weekends. 5 hrs work $900 cash profit.

Everything I could, worked in the garage at night when i could on other peoples cars, work all the O.T. I could, sold used or new race parts and took cars apart to sell. I am above the rest of the sexual performers on here, I never rented myself out to young, inexpereinced college girls, thier mothers always paid more Just kidding

Me taking pics in the front yard is gonna get me in trouble with my wife. However I can tell you that she was mowing the lawn in her bikini and then her sisters come beboppin down the street and one of my buddies shows up and says something to the effect that he is moving in since I have a smorgasboard in the front yard next door. My wife is not exactly what I would refer to as homely either

I work at a GM dealer by day and work in my garage at night to make my mad money, general repair and some chassis work. At one point I was making more mad money then work money.

I just do more of what I usually do.
I haul new cars to dealerships in the upper midwest.
50 hours a week pays the bills........get closer to 70 and I have some " disposable " income.
But it disposes a lot quicker than it accumulates.

Remember, 47% of the people pay zero federal income tax. If everyone paid something, even 10%, they could reduce the burden on those of us paying the bills.

i work whit german sportcars daytime
and rapair regular cars in spare time
help out in dadīs buissness/paperwork/car reapair(his service vehicle) etc
buy/sell parts
all the race parts here are alot more expesive ..shipping ,customduties,taxes

whe pay alot of tax here in Sweden

so whit all this work have no time to race ..need time /and money

Make parts for other mopar racers and sell them at the track. You always come home from the track with more money in the pocket than when you left the shop,and it looks good to the wife. Just be careful that you don't make more money than the promoter of the events or he may BAN you. Then you will do more internet sales and double your income. It's a vicious circle. Since it's hard enough to find a regular job in this part of the world it's what we don't do that funds the race car.
We dont:
Go on holiday.
Go out drinking, to restaurants, movies.
Fix the house properly when it needs it.
Fix the daily drivers when they need it.
Pay taxes on time.
Pay the credit card on time.
ETC ETC
