440 w/ 3.90 stroke - 01/07/10 04:11 AM
Anyone ever run a 440 block with a 3.90 stroke crank? If so, pros/cons? What rods? custom pistons?
Thanks, Brian

383 w/3.900 stroke. 915 heads and a set of hand ported 915 heads, flat top pistons and a .560 lift solid flat tappet cam. Makes good power. No notching the block or oil pick-up boss. 449 c.i. of junk and went 9.08 at 148+ in a 2500lb car. I bought the block and heads from a junkyard and someone gave me the 440 steel crank with a screwed up main journal. Cheap fun. Cranks are available from 440 source, Ohio, and I'm sure others and cost less than having a stock crank prepped. Pistons may be a problem but customs are only a couple hundred more than shelf pistons.

Allen,
Did you use a custom piston to get that kind of compression?
Thanks, Brian
