Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/21/09 10:46 PM

Are you going to have your push rod provider install a .020-.030 restricter in the push rods? You dont need much to oil the ball/cups.

I read threads on here about guys getting too much oil up top! thoguht they just installed the jets in the oil lines.....

Your not going to have any oil pressure with the Indy oiling lines (even restricted) and all 16 push rods bleeding oil like a gape'n wound LOL

Unless the lifter bores already have been restiricted way down anyways.

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/21/09 11:22 PM

I have plugs in the block oil passages on my World block so the Indy heads only oiled from the back. Didn't run any restrictors and probably pumped too much oil to the rocker boxes. I don't think you want to oil from the block and the Indy oil lines at the same time.

So maybe pushrod oiling is a bad idea....

No pushrod oiling is a good idea..Running the Indy lines is the bad idea...Actually they are ok but if I were to choose I would go pushrod oiling with the correct rockers for it.

maybe i am confused on something with this world block ??? btw I was gonna run the harland rockers... and I thought you had to use the oil lines for the -1's

block has bushed lifter bores with the pin holes in them and I have a set of lifters I got off of ou812/imm with the oiling holes in the side and top of the lifter and i have the melling hi volume pump with external oiling and its plumbed into the front of the block!. thx

sorry for the questions this is my first race block

The oil line kit from indy worked better on my world block than they did on my stock block because of the added ports on the back. It turned out much cleaner and I didn't need as many fittings. As for the restrictors I bought mine from Indy they are pressed right into the fittings and I screwed mine into the heads. I also have pushrod oiling and have the pushrods restricted. BTW I laughed when I read your signature line as I think that quote was directed at me?

what size pushrods and restrictions were in the pushrods

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/22/09 09:09 PM

I don't remember what size those pushrods are or what the restrictors where. I've used them for several seasons now. Contact Pierre at Smithbrothers and maybe he could look it up? My application and yours will more than likely differ as I am running a combo that no one else is. http://www.pushrods.net/

One more thought....
The Indy kit does a great job of oiling the rockers on stock blocks..It wont be much diff than a aftermarket block cause your pulling oil from basically the same place.
You never hear people burning up rocker tips with the stockish style rocker shaft, and the Indy style rocker arms..T&D also..
The few I have seen is with Jesel rockers and spray bar oiling..
I personally have used this system many, many seasons without a single problem..This was a oiling kit I made my self.
So if your setup falls into this category why over complicate things? Sometimes problems we have, is problems we have created.
I would imagine there is tons of people running this setup, and the only thing we hear, is how to cut down the oil they are already getting, not increase the oil supply.
Im sorry if I come off being a smartypants (not my intent), my thoughts are sincere and I do want to help

Merry Christmas Wedgie

My block's back at the machine shop right now but it's the same as yours.

The oil galleries I circled on your picture are what supplies the oil to the rocker stands. They should be drilled and tapped, with a set screw installed? Look down in the two holes from the face of the block. I think its about a 3/8-16 black oxide coated set screw with a .040 hole through the middle.

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/23/09 01:59 AM

My block had the restrictors in there but since my indy heads don't oil from the cam galley I don't know that it would be an issue if those where in there or not as the oil has no where to go? If your running a set of EZ heads then I think it would be as I think they do oil from the cam galley. When I got my block I dummied it up and filled the oil pan to get a visiual on how much oil cam out of the lifter bore oil holes. (Sever paranoia) I ran the oil pump with my priming tool and way more oil came out of those little holes than I suspected. It was a Pain to go through all that but I felt much better after doing it.

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/23/09 05:16 AM

I agree that there's probably no need to plug the holes. Like Allen said, with the -1 Indy's there's nowhere for the oil to go, except maybe out around a less than perfect head gasket seal. Wanting to eliminate any potential oil leak source I went ahead and plugged them.

I was told that oil up through the pushrods was good for harmonics also

what type of plug from where i meant. thx

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/28/09 12:53 AM

I just bought a 3/8 hex plug from the local hardware store.
It's a "set screw".

Re: Indy Head Oiling / World Block - 12/28/09 01:21 AM

My block had the set screws installed when I received it but they had the .040 oil holes in them. I just filled the holes with Permatex Ultra Black and let it set up a few days.

Well my oil line kit showed up today from mancini and I guess I dont have to worry about tapping the brass fittings as I guess the new kits come this way! also in the kit I got the little set screw plug to block oil to the top end!
