What scoop you been looking at Fred? Traditional Harwood style Aero scoop, or what you see on the Pro stock cars now?

I can't recall where I heard this and I'm not sure it holds true for all situations....

If you run a string from the top of the windshield to the leading edge of the hood/header panel, the opening (on pro-style scoops) should be outside the string line.

Of course, not all carbs sit at the same height inside the scoop, so proper internal ducting would be required.

Maybe a chassis shop like RJ, or Bickle can share some of their aero info.

Fred you goin old school or new school on that car.?

it looks pretty low..actually considering its a hemi with tunnel ram...
i think a legitimate 8" is where youll end up..
you need room ontop obviously...but you knew that....

my vote is something traditional...(you might call that ol school..?)

Fred,
I know this probably wont help you much because you need actual measurements. But before we made the HEMI swap this had a B-1 motor in it with a single 4. Obviously when making the swap the original scoop wasnt big enough so a bigger Pro Stock style Harwood was bought.
Heres a pic without the hood. You can see the correlation between the carb heighth & the windshield.

You could try something like the 9" cowl from VFN - or was it 11" ?

Fred,
Heres a pic with the new scoop on the car.
Again you really need measurements but this gives you an idea how big we had to go to make it work. Based on your pics/heighth Im guessing its pretty close to what we have shown here...roughly.

The string from the roof line to the front of the
hood holds true, now put the bottom of the inlet of the
scoop at or above the string... try to use a ideal/
stackon the carb for a better entry into the carb,
that will give you a idea on how tall it should be.
My carb is about 1.3" below the bottom of the inlet
