Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 12/29/06 11:58 PM
Thanks for the shots, guys! I always loved the looks of those things, but heard they were like altereds (dangerous, skittish). They really took the whole big engine in a small car thing to the extreme! I know there have been crazier Pro Fairgrounds examples and Gliddens EXP, but the Colts were always the final answer to a certain White Vega.

Hello All....here is a pic of my fathers HEMI Colt that he ran in pro stock.....This car was build next to Gliddens Pinto on the Jigs at the same time at Norm Paddocks shop....After Pro Stock was done with these cars he Bracket raced the car for several years and then sold it to start the carb business
...Now the car sits in a shop less then an hour away still with the owner that bought the car from dad....And of corse he will not sell me the car or even tell me where it is so we could look at it....He's never even ran the car!!I would love to get it back for the family and my kids.....Dad ran with Mr Norm many of times and even bought one of Mr Norms HEMI's out of his colt for theirs.....Cool Stuff!! Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 03/09/07 12:49 AM
Mark who built your car - it kinda has the same hood scoop that Roger Denny had on his Colt - like 2 piece
Stewart

Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 03/09/07 01:12 AM
You are correct that it is a 71-73 body, with just the 1974 grill and single headlights. From what I can tell, the 71-76 Colts use the same front fenders and hood?

Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 03/09/07 01:18 AM
You have a good eye. It was built by Don Hardy for Roger Denney in 1975, then he sold it to the Rod Shop. This is the "famous" black Rod Shop Colt that Bob Riffle ran 8.21 at a match race in Orange County in 1976.
In 1977, it went to Carlton to use as a PS match race car, as his altered wheelbase Colt wasn't popular with the track promoters as a PS match racer. Donnie went 8.08 at 169 in this car a week before his death. Someone already posted a picture of this car in white Carlton colors with Ronnie Sox's name on the window. The photo was taken at Indy in 1977.
I bought it from the Rod Shop in late 1978 and raced PS and FX in 1979 and 1980.

Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 03/09/07 06:37 PM
At various times, I have heard that it was destroyed but have not be able to verify that, and hope it is untrue. I have seen some photos of a destroyed Colt, that was similar but thankfully, I do not believe that it was the Real Colt.
Nelson DesChamps was just a figure-head, because of family and business issues it was better for me to remain in the background. NO ONE owned the Missile nor the Colt, but me.
The Colt was built by Logghe and was the first Sox&Martin Hemi Colt. I bought it in mid-1974 when S&M were starting to close their operation. The other S&M Colts were built by Hardy. I think that Logghe built a few of them, but do not know for sure or know who got them. I also thing that Knapp was contracted by Chrysler to build 4 or 5 Colts. --History is sparse on these cars, most of what I know is either first hand or word of mouth. They are a unique piece of Chrysler History that has remained kinda mystery.

Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 03/10/07 01:58 AM
Mark's car looks like it has the Logghe style front fenders on it to me. I don't remember the other Colts having the huge wheelwells on the front fenders. The paint scheme looks a lot like Stewart's with the black replaced by the purple paint. Any possibility that is Stu's old car?

I was just commenting with my engine guy near Tampa that Stewart introduced me to about 10 or so years back. I bought some older, beat up SS Hemi heads that were done by MCH. I bet Stewart would have loved looking over those. Robert had them on his flow bench and I bet Stewart would have been over there for that.

I'd like to see a Nostalgia Pro Stock group based on the early 1970s cars, (Hemi Cudas/Dusters, BB Carmaros, BB Moosetangs, etc.). The current groups seem to center around late 1980s tube chassis cars. I have no interest in those cars.

Re: HEMI COLT PHOTOS - 04/26/18 09:02 PM
Originally built for Jack Sharkey in the Kansas City area, mostly used as a show car. Car was sold to Tom Kocanda and Donn Patrick who ran it in Comp through the mid-late 70's. They may have dabbled in Pro a little bit, but I don't seem to recall seeing where they did. Car was bracket raced after that. Current owner was running a BBC/Glide combo. Excellent car, just priced too high for what it is. There is a story behind the price, but I am not going to get into it here.
