what cam would you use?

It all depends on what you let me get away with power wise...!!

Racer Brown STX-22. 276-276 dur and .590-.590 lift. 106sep and in at 102*
Would be even better with 1.6 RAR. I know a 2500lb Vette with a 500" Indy -1 headed BB Mopar that has gone 8.50s with the smaller STX-21 272x.560 with 1.5 rockers. The STX-22 with 1.6 RAR in my 418c.i. production headed sb mopar has gone 9.68 at 135+ at 3050lbs. Must mention the one in my Demon was bought off eBay for $50 never used and was made in 1970. nick at compu-flow checked them over a corrected valve sealing issues,also up graded retainers and springs to match the comp cam he speced,it lasted 2 passes,4 wiped lobes.so new block,pistons,all machine work and ready to try this again,i have the power-glide now ,727 before.thanks for the info guys.

Here's that big Ray Barton that I have if your interested (only has 25 passes on it, with lifters, already broken in but may be a little big):

I'd also recommend using the newer lifters with the EDM hole in them to provide some extra insurance against lobes going flat. I got mine from Hughes, I know Jim runs EDM lifters as well.

If you loosen the converter to 5500 plus rpm, you can go a lot bigger than you might think. I just found an old time slip that showed my car with a 499 lowdeck, 440-1 with bowl porting only, alky injected 12.5/1 compression at 3000Lbs went 143.3 mph, 9.340 with a horrible 1.366 60 ft. I had an ultrdyne roller in it, 283 @ .050 int, 290 @ .050 exh, 108 lsa . Corrected altitude for that run was 1650 ft. Shifting at 6800 rpm.

Nope, Racer Brown is "old School" been around for many years and I don't mean any disrespect by the "old school" comment. His cams are very proven and many guys love his cam profiles. I've never ran one but I've heard a lot of people speak highly of them.

He's a younger guy, and very very well respected cam spec and builder for a lot of people here on Moparts. A year or so ago that's about all any one was running. He's a mopar guys and has a lot of knowledge on Mopars. Here is his number (616-499-6223) , you can tell him about your car and motor and he will send you his recommendation for a cam. I've ran about 4 of his cams, great guy, great personal service, he's always gone out of his way for me.

He had an opportunity to go work for a company doing some really leading edge motorsports stuff so we lost his focus for about a year but he was still doing cams just wasn't doing much advertising. But that company went under so he back working for himself now for well over a year now.

If you call him, be sure and ask him about lifter and spring recommendations, hopefully your spring will work since they don't have but 20mins of run time on them.
