How to protect chrome during winter storage? - 11/11/09 05:18 PM

Well i am putting the race car, and the Dart away for hibernation.
I have a lot of chrome on both of them.
I want to protect it from getting rusty or anything else.
What are the best proven ways to protect chrome bumpers, wheels, and anything else?

A product called never-dull works well. Apply it and leave it on for the winter and then wipe it off come spring.

Looks pretty good. This is safe to put on Crager S/S wheels that are real shiny?

I love S100 Corrosion Protectant
http://www.s100.com/s100_cp.htm

I used to work at a Harley dealer and found this stuff there. I use it on everything I own that gets put away and risks corrosion, rust or any environmental effects. Works awesome on paint, bare metals and particularly chrome. Great stuff for aluminum intakes! Spray it on and forget about it for the winter. I just rinse it off with a degreaser and water in the spring but you dont need to.

I believe Naval Jelly is basically jelled acid (phosphoric?)? May not be the best for storage...

Isn't never dull a fine abrasive compound in a felt type pad? I wouldn't use it on new rims unless there to shiny.

This is a good point. My rims are brand new and all my bumpers are rechromed.
I dont want to hurt any of this stuff.

I always use a polish suited to the material (Alu or Chrome) then car wax. I don't really know how much it helps but the parts look better and I feel better.

I like the looks of the spray can for bikes. seems interesting.

an old timer once told me to use vasoline petroleum jelly.

I have also heard this.
I was hoping that some people had some tried and true methods.
between the vasoline and naval jelly, i will be all lubed up.

Navel jelly is for removing oxidation on metal, like acid. put it on your car,try to find it in the spring.

Ahhh ok.That is good to know.
Well i never said anything about putting it on my car.
I was talking about using it along with some vasoline and a poll.
I figured Fred and HEMI GREG was gonna come over and help with the poll.
He mentioned something about amish girls.
