Great day at the track today!

Great day at the track today! - 11/02/09 02:58 AM

My best so far this year was a 10.05 with the new motor and that was with a stumble in the carb at launch. Butch(6t5Belv1) and I headed out to Thompson Raceway Park today, the weather was perfect, early morning air was around 300-400', later in the day when I got a grip on the tune it was much much warmer out but I think it was still great air.

1st pass the only thing I tried was launching off the 2 step to bypass the squirters and the stumble, went 9.93@135.68 MPH with a 1.40 60 ft!

2nd pass I removed the carb/hoodscoop seal pan just because I've never tried it w/o it, plus I slightly short shifted into 2nd, ran 10.000 at 135, 1.42 60 ft.

3rd pass I installed the air bleeds that Monte Smith and Jesse from BIGS suggested(Thanks Jesse for overnighting the bleeds!!!). I'm now at .060 idle, .045 intermediate, and .033 high speed in my 9375 1050 Dominator.
It responded nicely with a 9.900 at 135.68 with my best ever 1.36 60 ft'!!!!

4th pass I dropped the exhaust system which consists of 3.5" pipe and 3.5" PYPES RACE PRO mufflers, no crossover or X-pipe yet.
It went 9.88 at 135.70 but 60' slipped to a 1.39.

5th pass I went from 97 jets to 98's and it went 9.90 at 134.80 with a 1.37 60.

6th pass I went down to 96 jets and boy did it respond with a 9.82 at 136.09 with a 1.36 60 ft'!!!

7th pass I went to 95 jets and it slowed to a 9.86 at 135.69 with a 1.38 60 ft' so I will put the 96 jets back in.

I was thrilled, had a blast today and went home very happy! It really feels like a hot rod now and it will go 9.80's through the exhaust on a true 10.5 tire on pump gas which is all I asked out of this combo. I'm running 93 octane on the street and putting one gallon of 110 Cam2 in the cell on race day for a little added insurance til I creep my way towards straight 93 octane.

The cam is wrong for this combo so winter plans will call for a custom roller and a switch to E85 and possible 9.60's next summer on cheap gas. But if the money isn't there to switch I'm perfectly happy with the way it's running just the way it is........for now.

Oh and I did my first ever wheelie with both wheels up about 3 inches for the first time in my life. LOL!
Next spring we'll play with the weight and do some wheelies, and I'd love to put a transbrake in it.

Here's a video thanks to Butch!

Now that's exactly what I told him at the track. But those of us who know Bob personally know that even if that car ran 6.50 he would some how manage to get bit more out of it.

Congrats Bob

Kool!!! I had a bad day myself; adjuster came loose and ate through a rocker arm, so I'll be bobbing for alum. chips this winter. Many other minor problems, but you are one of the people I thought of when it all was happening, so Congrats' and I guess it's just my turn in the barrel!

CONGRATS! that is the perfect day.... gotta love when they just keep picking up. had one of those days on friday myself. the new 500" has 8 runs on it and just picks up every pass. 10.20 @ 133. you put a brake in it and you'll be looking at the sky when it leaves!

Very Kool Bob... When can I drop the Duster off, maybe you can get me back in the 80s... I'm stuck at 10 flat.

Re: Great day at the track today! - 11/02/09 11:40 PM

That's cooking!
put that cam in straight up and some more racing gas in the tank. I see .60's maybe even a high 50's. the 1/8 mile mph shows that - stand back it will probably go skyward though

Re: Great day at the track today! - 11/03/09 01:23 AM

Thanks guys, yes I'm very glad I didn't give up or burn it down or drive it off a cliff. My wife just could not understand why I wanted to try one more time after such a miserable year, I told her if I didn't it would be one long grumpy winter.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will be considering all of them this winter, I'd love a custom roller and E85 and a transbrake but money is tight so as DoubleD suggested I may just advance the cam and stuff like that.
I don't have a 9 second license but I want it to be able to run 10 flat in any kind of bad air.

Brian, that would be a great video, but I'd need a .5 head start.

Ron, I don't know if I've struck another good combo yet but it is finally running hard. I honestly think it could be quicker with smaller heads and intake and cam for the RPM range I'm running, but I am starting to be happy with it and it's all set up for nitrous if the desire ever rises, it has alum. rods, wider gapped rings, and o-ringed block with copper gaskets. I just don't have the coin to fill bottles and buy all the juice parts.

540Dart, I'm planning on less duration if all goes well this winter.

Butch thanks again for all your help yesterday. We can super tune your car next spring, it's as easy as opening the hood and the tool box simultaneously.

Dennis believe me when I hit the lottery it will have a stick!

Chip I was worried about not having that Super Sucker spacer yesterday but it appears that it likes the one inch open better, even though the air was better yesterday. That'll save me some money. LOL!

340B5, hang in there man!

Great to hear it! I knew you would get it sooner or later. Sorry we didn't get together this year. See you in the spring. Now I'll have to figure out how to make the Dartsport go faster to keep up with you.

More cubes, compression, and camshaft, that will get you there Dave.
We'd actually be a very good race right now, you would have went 9.80's in that air Sunday. We need to get that on video in the spring!

Yea I knew Rick was there that's why I didn't call ya, I knew he'd relay the messages.

Here's a nice Hemi Cuda that was there. He was running 13 hundredths quicker than me but hasn't raced for several years, said it dyno'd at 850HP.

were you pulling on the top end... if you advance the

could help the converter.... good job

Mike the converter seems to be working perfectly now, with 5% or less in slip.
I'm shifting at 6600 and trapping at 6900 which is right where I want it, I like to trap 300RPM over the best shift point.

Re: Great day at the track today! - 11/06/09 03:09 AM

Thanks N20mstr, it's running good finally so now I'm gonna start having fun with the car. Did you just mention NAWS?

Thanks Fran and Rob, hope to race with ya next summer.

Tony, I'm right at 12 to 1 or a hair less. The cam bleeds off compression, I only get 150 cranking compression. A custom cam would be quicker but I'd need to switch to E85, can't afford the $7 per gallon stuff.

It was great air, around 300-400' in the morning according to all the big dogs pitted around me. Later in the day it was much warmer and actually sweaty in the car but still great air and the car was going quicker with tuning.
