Transbrake

Transbrake - 10/30/09 01:34 PM

I am considering installing a transbrake over the winter but would like some input from you guys that are already running one. I am running 3700lb Charger that runs 9.30's at 143mph and am concerned about breakage. I know the curve will go up but is it worth it in respects to consistancy and being more competitive. I have been told by other racers that the improvement in 60ft times are marginal, my best is 1.33, but I would like to be more competitive,

I would say it has made me much more consistant. At least in staging and launching anyway

Dang that thing is movin.
Tell us about your combo...and pics are always nice.
I would say that you will love the brake. In your case, I would expect to see a gain in 60ft times.

What brand brake do you have or going to buy?
I really like the Tranzact brakes, they are cheap and perform like the brakes that are twice the money

Since your running low 9s already i would think the drive shaft, ujoints are already 1350s or better the weak is the trans .Will make holding the car better and hit harder ,might have to tweak suppsinsion, shocks for the hit.
its fun

what a ride that must be

with that much power and weight, you better have some good driveline.

ss springs is out of the question imo.

I switched over to ladder bars two years ago and that turned out to be the best improvement I ever made. With Cal-tracs and mono leafs I was never very consistant and the car was a real hand full. Now with the ladder bars there is no more drama and the car runs arrow straight. Yes, I am already running 1350 joints with a hardened slip joint and yoke. The rear is a dana with Moser internals. The Car itself has been fairly relieable. I have been kind of sneeking up on this power level over a number of years, always wondering when I am going to hit that point when breakage starts to become a major factor.

if the moser inerds and axles is good enough, go for it

if you are not going to run a delay box, be prepared to tune suspension to get a good light, or get one of those adjustable buttons

the car will move a lot quicker.

Thanks guys for the input. The track that I run at, transbrakes and air shifters are legal in semi-pro and are not considered electronics. This really is an advantage for those guys so equiped. I do not agree with this but I quess that I am to the point of caving in! If you can't beat em' join em'. Hey Wild Bill, I am the guy with the black 68' Charger that parked next to you and your Dad at the Pittsburg event 2 years ago! Glad to see that you are still at it!

I have the weight you do but not the power. The brake will help consistency. I have a Moser Dana and I would suggest the rear braced cover so you can preload the carrier caps, if you don't have one already. If you do the trans brake I would suggest the MSD 3 step. You can limit burnout rpm with 1 chip and the low side/transbrake rpm is adjustable with dials.

your car is running good and i doint think you need a transbrake to be consistent.
i believe its just another thing to go wrong.
footbraking is for real men.
