Six Pack Scoops on an A-Body - 10/19/09 04:36 AM

I've finally decided to take the step forward and put a six scoop on the demon. I originally posted this in the general section but then realized that I would get more responses on this side of the board. If you have any pictures of a body cars with six pack hoods (both 3 and 5") and can share them it would be appreciated. Also if you have any horror stories to share or advice/tips those are also welcome. When posting the pictures, if you could provide as much information as possible as to price, manufacturer etc. The only two real companies that I know of so far are AAR and Unlimited, so please feel free to provide more.

Stay away from Unlimited unless they have change thier quality recently.

when i grafted the 6 pak scoop onto my front clip it changed it's areodymanics & made the hood want to lift by the cowl. fixed that by reloacting the pins closer to the center of the hood. definately gained et with the fresh air into the carby.

My father was saying the exact same thing.

He said back in the day when they did my uncles scoop they were hot **** but now they arent the best

I would go with the 5" tall scoop, I had the 3" version it may have been an old Harwood hood. If you look at the picture you can see I had to raise the back of the hood so the carburator would have some space (about 1") and that was before I switched from the M1 to the Indy manifold with a 2" spacer

Unknown manufacturer. Bolt on style with the lip on the inside. Sig pic is all I have.

I have an Unlimited hood with a Direct Connection scoop I got back in the early 80s. Buying new I`d go with AAR I have their bolt on trunk lid and its a real nice piece.

Here is an other one. Make sure the hood has the front lip. As you can see in this picture the center of the hood is lifting up. Mine has the lip may require another pin.

maz advertises in the mopar mags, the quality is pretty poor though... AAR is king...

I had one from MAS. It wasn't very nice. I mean it was ok but the fitment wasn't very good. I bought one from PENSTAR at the winter CC swap meet and it seems like a nice hood.

Well after doing some looking around and price hunting, I'm almost decided on WRS.

Its 420 ( ) for a pin on six pack hood and about 177 to have it shipped. So all in all about 600. Sound like a fair price?

I bought mine about 10 years ago from MAS racing products ,i think out of Minnesota, had ads in numerous Mopar magazines. Very light, sturdy, fit was ok. In fact had the hood off the car at the head of staging lanes in the finals of Chrysler Classic at Tri-State, and a guy in the finals of slant six class came up and drove over the corner(about 6 inches in from the corner) and it didn't even hurt it! Won the race with a tire track across the hood,lol

I got my hood and 5" scoop from Glasstek out of Chicago. Good stuff, but they would not install the scoop for me...

Very little prep and quite strong.

This was my old 66 Dart that I rolled in 1982. I bought the 6pk scoop in 1976 right from a dodge dealer. I thought it looked real good on it. Ron

Hate to change the subject but cudabin whose glass frontend do you have on your car?? I like that over the smooth front my glass frontend has.

I bought the scoop off eBay for $80 (don't remember the manufacturer). I cut a hole in the original steel hood & rivited/fiberglassed the scoop to the hood. It started to crack around the edge so I added more rivits & fiberglassed it again. Now it looks good. Make sure if you use a steel hood to use alot of rivits & wait a couple months before paint to make sure it doesn't crack.

What changes do I have to make if I go from the stock twin scoop hood to a pin on hood?

I was told something about light weight springs but i didnt get much detail about it

Thanks Dave. The Cuda in the backround was my brothers 67 Cuda. It had a 340 in it also but it is long gone. My 66 Dart also had a 340 I put in it when I removed the 273. It ran a best of 11.94 @ 113. That was in 1981 the year before I rolled it. The Cuda had a slightly hotter 340 and ran a best of 11.78 @ 114 but it was sold in 1985 and burned up in the garage the guy who bought it had as somehow his garage burned to the ground with the Cuda in it. But I like my 63 much better then any other Mopar I have ever owned. But that 66 was very rare and in good shape. Ron

I measured the hood scoop as as per glasstek instruction . Mine measures 4 inches .Not sure who's make it is ,I found it at a swap meet complete on hood for a 150 bucks!

I just bought one off of ebay, new from D.C.R.C MAS-ter. Mine was $60 shipped, but I see they already raised their prices.
I haven't got it yet, but it look s good in the pictures.
