Temperature Switch activation - 10/16/09 12:34 PM
Just wondering if anyone knows if a temperature switch (single spade terminal, in radiator type) grounds the circuit? I use one to turn my fans on, but it has to high of temperature and I was wondering if I can simply ground the wire and use my switch to activate the fans when I want?

Bust out the multimeter. Some are redundant ground, others are not.

I have a Be Cool rad and fan set up and the fans are temp controlled. they come on and go off at 160 and I needed them to stay on longer for cool down so I just ran a ground wire off of the temp switch and use the fans manually.
I did buy another temp control which is supposed to come on at 160 and go off at 140 but I have not installed it yet.

My buddy has a probe in the rad then the wire goes
to a adjustable stat... all could be purchased at NAPA

If it's a single wire,it grounds the circuit. Most likely a piezo-resistive sensor that turns the fan on through a relay. It could be that it is slightly more complicated and it senses the grounding, but I doubt that. In either case, tapping in w/ a switch to ground would turn the fans on.
