Headers for new bullet ?

Headers for new bullet ? - 10/09/09 05:09 PM

Would like some opinions on the best route to take regarding headers for my new bullet going into the Duster.

Option 1. Chassis header, custom 2 1/4 headers with a 3 1/2 or 4 (not sure) inch collector , however to fit these I would need to ditch my torsion bars and do a coil over conversion. Car already has an LRT k member.
These are used headers so they are pretty inexpensive. More significant costs come from doing the coil over conversion.

Option 2. Custom stepped to 2 3/8 headers with 4 1/2 collector would dump out side of fenders near door (do not jnow price yet but likely around $1500

Motor is a 572 with fully ported B1's

If money was no object I would do the coil over conversion and get custom under chassis headers but I just do not have the budget to do both.

As always opinions are very welcome.

Option 3. ?

The quickest and cheapest option is a step header like TTI with tweaked flanges,2nd would be a custom set built to fit.Estimate cost for option 1($700/$800) option 2($800/$1200)Depending on the fabricator and design.Fender well is the cheapest but not best preferred.

Would the TTi 2inch to 2 1/8 inch step header be too much restriction on the 572?

That is what i am running and am going to start with that on my new 540 Bullet...

They fit good with the torsion bars.

I had 2 inch fenderwells on mty 493 and I just sold them since I was pretty sure they would not work well with the 572. Also under the impression the TTI 's would not be large enough for the 572 but I do not have any first hand experience. I will be interested to hear how Cudabins 540 spins the shaft on the dyno since he is using tti's. The TTI's would definetly be the simplest route if they do not restrict the motor too much.

thanks for the input
