Drag strip Etiquette - 10/06/09 05:50 AM

This is stemming from the crash video posted by Bigdad..... If something unfortunate happens and you whack a components car..... I've never done it but seen it happen. If it was me I'd offer to help the other guy fix his ride. What do you guys do??? Is this what happens behind the scenes?

In my oppinion and from what I have seen Most people will try and help make things right.
I have had a friend get his dragster dented and scratched from a guy on a bike in the staging lanes and the guy paid for the damage.

I have also had a friend accidently have his tire fall off the car and roll into another guys car. He was going to pay for the damage but the guy was being a TOTAL Az-hole and the track official heard the comments being said and told my buddy to just leave and not worry about the damage.
They signed the form when he entered and that my buddy didn't owe him a cent for the damage.

It is up to the people involved but most people will make it right if you don't rape them on the repair costs and handle it in a polite way.

If it's "on track" you pretty much have no recourse. If it's in the pits you have a shot at recovering damages, but you would still have to sue to get anything if they didn't volunteer.

I've been very fortunate. I've never even crossed the centerline, or had anyone cross into my lane under power.

I did have a guy turn in front of me for the return road down at Assumption once. That made me poop my shorts.

If it happens between the burn-out box, and the timeslip booth, IT'S RACING!! No quarter given, none accepted...this is a big boy sport, if it bothers you, stay off the dragstrip, or get on-track insurance.

If it happens in the pits between two race cars...I've seen 2 pretty bad pit crashes, where it was difficult to determine fault, and in both cases the parties agreed to fix thier own cars.

If it happens in the pits, and someone runs into your stuff while it's sitting, you should take every recourse possible to collect for damages, including having thier privelege to attend races removed.

"rubbin's racin'" oh wrong kind of racing, in any event the hitter should AT LEAST make some sort of effort to say sorry. Not sure about the $$$ I guess if he/she was wreckless..meaning getting loose and stayed in it, or stayed in it as the motor was going away you might have a point.

99.99 percent of people on the planet are human(the rest of us drive mopars)so thats the risk you take.although i would try to help as much as much as i realisticly could.most people already have as much in their cars as they can afford.thats the risk you take

pit related accidents are easily insureable. If you don't have that insurance well, there is no one to blame but yourself. It's the on track insurance that is out of site $$ wise.

A pit bike hit my truck in the pits. I confronted the guy and he made good.

Roadrunner received a nice scratch in the pits, nobody saw it and nobody claimed it. Still irritates me when I have to look at it...

Nobody I race with has ever hit or been hit by another car, only self imposed damage with retaining walls. I know the track does not bill you for damage resulting from a pass gone bad.

I just got a quote from K & K insurance for coverage everywhere except on the race track. If it gets hit its covered, burns up, its covered, someone steals it covered... This for only $1.50 per $1,000.... No reason not to be covered.... IMO.....

I got one for you. An of duty cop driving a city police car getting paid to provide security at Jax raceway (Jacksonville FL) talking on a cell phone going too fast. Destroyes the back half of a 8 second racecar pulling out from his pit. (Junked it). The Cop climbs all over the Driver of the Racecar (Norm Williams). No compentiation was recovered. He is a chevy guy but he was told not to pursue his claim by the JPD for fear of retaleation. Does that ruffle your feathers?

If I was the owner of that 8 second car I would be talking and demanding legal action from the local U.S. federal goverment attuorney(SP?) for that policemans abuse of power and coercion and civil rights violation. I would hope there was more than one witness willing to testify in a court of law against the off duty cop misusing the city cop car also I have been the victim of attempted law enforcements abuse more than once, it ia amazing how much respect and lack of attention you get after you take the proper steps to get the abuse stopped In defence of most good law enforcement officers of all types of agencys, there is a few bad apples in every barrel. It is up to us( the citizens involved) to take the nessecary action to get rid of them Silence is what allows the few bad apples to survive
